Re: GL1100 Carburetor Throttle Linkage and Wandering Springs - HOW and WHAT?

There are springs in the air screws all four of them, at the linkage you are fighting with, the accelerator shaft, all 4 cut offs, Look at a carb fiche on a dealer's parts site may help you.. http://shop.westernhonda.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=2566507&category=Motorcycles&make=Honda&year=1...

Re: Help with my 1980

+1 easy stuff first check for hydrolock, next broken or out of synch timing belts. I'd turn the engine using the access at the fly wheel rear of the engine, 17mm bolt head then inside 12mm only turn clock wise..plugs out..if it turns a bit then lock sup..probably a valve hanging up..bent or out of t...

Re: GL1000 Plastics restoration

I didn't criticize just stated that Gl's not plastic but ABS and ABS CEMENT used to repair is the best, but not the only choice. Maybe I should have said 'don't work as well' 8-) 8-)

PS it "works very very" well. would be correct. ;)

Re: Gas mileage on my 2000 wing

your weight, tire pressure, bike's weight, throttle control..all effect mileage. of Course the engine efficiency..plugs, wires, = spark good or bad; carb settings and carb state clean dirty??? and what gear you run in and shift at what RPM's?? lots of variables. You should have changed bikes and run...

Re: GL1100 Transmission Issue

Cheaper to buy a replacement motor than fix a transmission. The gasket set is $200 plus you should buy OEM head gaskets another $75..plus all the labor of splitting the cases Vs just pulling and replacing the engine. Of course you are buying a used engine, so there are risks there too. Not a hard jo...

Re: GL1000 Plastics restoration

Goldwing tins are not made of plastic..but ABS, using plastic repair kits down't work well..using ABS plumbers cement, the black stuff, works a is permanent..it is a chemical bond. Then dried and sanded for paint.

You can also make a "seal mate" out of any thin plastic or metal ..like a soda bottle, soda can..etc. I did and they work just like the store bought..

I had a 1500 with a screened vent..just had some old window screen. I took the vent out, opened it up, inserted the screen between the two parts of the vent, put it back together..one thing it does cut down the air flow quite a bit!!

Not necessarily cooked but you probably have an issue..oil in your water..mostly head gasket but could also be a water pump issue although I never could see how that could be but others say it happens. compression test might shed some light on the issues..

Do you mean fork tube? Yes they can be polished, if you can't feel it probably not a problem, where are the marks? the only area that is important is the inch or two where the seals move across. New ones are $$$ $300 plus and are only available from aftermarket forks makers. Like franks forks

Yes on the belts..check the how to section here and on other sites..sure there are some pics of the clips locations..you will need a set of clip pliers and a flashlight hard to see in there.

Re: Heated Gear

Standard stator barely keeps up with the light draws and battery charging. Changing all lights to LEd types especially the headlight..will give you extra juice for heating..but I'd say you need a high output stator to run vest and gloves. If the draw is more than the stator can handle two things can...

Sounds like clogged idle jet..requires carbs to be pulled and cleaned if not rebuilt!!

Your statement is confusing what does "when the clutch is out when I push the clutch in it dies" what does in and out mean. how about using engaged and not engaged..or in gear or out of gear??
