Re: GL1100 Oil pickup strainer cover.

some loosen the frame bolts at the bottom and spread the frame a bit with a long pry bar or wedge it open a bit with wood shims..safer way to do it.

THINGS TO LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING A USED 1800

I currently own a 1500 and have had all the Gl's 75-83 and 95-98. Do all my own work.

So on the 1800's specifically 2007, 115,000 miles.. anything to watch for..check.. I haven't a glue.

Re: Oil filter confusion

The 1500's use a screw on like that second one and lots of small cars. I think Honda still sells the correct filter...cartridge type. Or Randakks sells an adapter so you can use screw-ons with the 1000's or 1100's..many like the convenience

It;s not plastic it's ABS..use ABS cement to repair and ABS "plastic" to reinforce..the black plumbing pipe is ABS, you can buy sheets of ABs on line; and that's the cement you should use black ABS

Re: Altenative fix for the shifter shaft issue

OK I read your post/fix.. Gave me another idea..re welding to a bearing is not a good idea...so what if I used your idea of a pipe shaft to hold the bearing. Find a bearing that fits the shaft AND a pipe that fits the outer race of the bearing. Weld the pipe to the exhaust protector in exactly the r...

Re: CARB SYNC USING SINGLE VACUUM GAUGE

Seems fairly simple four tubes going to a four spot manifold with a cut off on each of the four tubes..open one at a time???? or four tubes each with a cutoff valve and just plug each into the gauge in turn not too hard to pop the tubes off and on??? Could be made with just tubing, five "T" connecto...

Re: Nasty spark plugs

Put new plugs in and run her for 100 miles..and look again..could be rust from moister in the cylinders, a little rich when last ridden??

If she only clicks with all the plugs out..other issues..shorter starter, bad battery/cell, bad solenoid..

Altenative fix for the shifter shaft issue

I was looking at my shifter, it is loose..wiggles a fair bit..so I was was looking into the bracket device that cyclemax sells. But then it occurred to me if one could weld a bearing into the opening in the header shield flush with the outer skin it would stabilize the shifter arm, you'd have a bear...

Two years for water AND brake fluids..oil every 3,000 but after sitting for a year acids can build up..so bestg to change but not the end of the world if yoiu wait for another 1,000 miles or so..take a look at it if it's totall black change now if not....

READ and do before you split..splitting cases is a last resort and may not be needed After doing the below and riding it easy for a couple of hundred miles and doing an oil change or two within 500 miles you might be good to go for a long time. Generally carbs don't leak unless they have a bad gasket or o ring . .OR the floats are set totally wrong. . to low and flood the bowl continuously..Check your float settings!! PS the only real sure replacement that works is randakk's kit. but it is $$ compare to the knock offs but fix it once corre...

Re: engine won't turn over.. 83 1100gl

Center stand, pull plugs put it 5th gear and try to turn the rear wheel..if it wont' turn..most likely a bent valve hanging out..bad news!! If it does turn and/or gas shoots out of one or more of the cylinder you were hyrdo-locked. Time to clean/rebuild your carbs.

Pry bar with base and padding to protect the engine probably the easiest..of pullout with strap and come-along type device but tie bike to something so it doesn't fall over????
