Re: AZ to Sturgis?
Go for it. If the bikes in good shape there is no reason it won’t make it. If you are worried about heat I would suggest getting a cooling vest and a vented jacket. A MasterCard will take care of just about any problem. Enjoy the Sturgis shenanigans. Love the area but definitely avoid it during bike...

Re: USB thumb drive music
When I had my Goldwing 1500 I had one of these wired up in the right side cubby hole. I never took it out just switched the SD cards now and then but it would also play a thumb drive or you can plug a phone or iPod into it. I never used the remote as it wouldn't transmit to the modulator when it was...

Re: Goodbye Fellow Wingers
UPDATE. I wasn't really looking that hard but just kept my eyes and ears open to any reasonably priced good bikes that crossed my path. Last week I closed a deal on a different sort of tourer. Figured it was still a good enough bike for the wife and I to get out on and more friendly to solo riding f...

Re: Tire changer that WORKS!
Not me, I usually take a grinder or cutting tool and cut around the rim removing the rims lip, then I slip the tire off with out any fuss  place the new one in and JB weld it closed...works good.... I must have been watching your YouTube videos because that's exactly how I do it.

Re: GL1500 Heated Seat
I think this can easily be done but the best idea would be to actually by a seat heater kit. You can get them for a motorcycle here: https://www.heatedseatkits.com/heatedseatkits/motorcycleseatheater/index.html This link apparently is no more and is not private. I wouldn’t use it. Good advice but t...

Re: Decided to retire my wing
Looks like a nice ride Dusty. Coincidentally since selling my Wing a bit ago the Cross Country Tour has made it to the top as a Wing replacement consideration. Not too many for sale around here for the price I want to pay.

Re: Alternator Indicator
I had a similar issue with my bike. Eventually it left me stranded with a dead battery. Got a boost and was able to ride it home. As hugger-4641 described I found that one of my alternator brushes was hanging up and only making contact occasionally. Cleaned that all up and the alternator was golden ...

Re: Rear tire blow out
That's what I was afraid of when I asked the question. As was pointed out read the thread about those tires. Seems like maybe legal action is required to get Metzler to address the problem.
Any chance you can put up a picture of the tire?

Oldbear - I noticed your avatar. Are you planning on doing the Cannonball 500? I'm thinking I will do one of the Cannonball rides this fall. It would have been a lot more comfortable on the Wing instead of my KLR 650.

Re: Installing new shifter brace
When I installed my shifter brace I just had the bike on the centre stand. I do have a bike lift but figured it would just be in the way. A platform lift would have made it a little more comfortable to do.

So we have an update. We found a very nice condition Mazda Miata Anniversary edition. One of only 150 that were sold in Canada in 1999 and only 7500 worldwide. We love the thing. All the joy of being out in the open without the helmet.

I like the nylon stuff myself. On the Wing I used a mesh jacket and pants. Was able to keep a little cooler wearing that. My wife wore non-vented nylon gear.

I've found this to be a very good article explaining how the body reacts to heat. When you think it's time to take off gear it's actually time to keep it on.

Gee guys you brought a tear to my eye. Appreciate the kind words. For me this forum has been a great resource and I just try to give back what I can. We absolutely loved our time on the Goldwing. We've done a lot of travelling but our biggest complaint is that we find it hard to be a tourist on a bi...
