Re: Ham radio licensees?

KC2ZLU I was always interested in becoming a HAM and finally got my license 2 years ago. I haven't done much with it primarily because I haven't been able to find an elmer that has an interest in the things I am. Primarily the digital side of it. I have an interest in APRS or the D-PRS. Not sure how...

Re: My new old goldwing is having trouble starting

Keep an eye on your battery voltage. Sometimes it will stay high enough to crank her over but not enough juice create a spark. I don't know all of the technical terms but is the way it was explained to me. I found if voltage drop much below 12v while cranking it wouldn't fire. Charging or jumping wo...

Re: Bad Idea?

I am not a fan of the 1200. Especially if it has less than 40,000 miles on it. The 1200 had the stator problem and they would die before the 40K mark. To repair you had to pull the motor. A very expensive task if you don't have the ability to do it yourself. A few days of work if you do. Most of the...

Re: Gl1100 to Gl1500 observation

I jumped all the way up to an 1800 from my 1100. Got on the 1100 the other day and it felt weird. I like the riding position of the 1100. You are sitting a little higher and more erect. The handle bars are a little higher too. The acceleration is a little slower and the braking is not at good as the...

Re: Rear speakers not working

I think it is a pinch at the hinge. I looked at the wires and event though the wrapping doesn't look cut it is routed through some bad pinch points. I need some time to look at it and decide what I am going to do. Fortunatly the helmet speakers work great and I really on need to use it when I have a...

Re: Rear speakers not working

The speakers are there. They seem to be intermittent. I am thinking it must be in the hinge area. I really done want to take that apart and get it back together while on the road. I am also not so sure about taking it back for warrantee either since I am sure they will work fine in the shop :(

Re: Adjust Volume on Intercom

My instructions are for a 2012 so they may or may not work. The changes were in the amp so the controls should be the same. First turn on your ICOM by pressing the COM button. Then press your volume control knob (on the dash not the handle bar one). Each time you press it should cycle through your v...

Re: When should I replace my 1983 timing blets?

I had heard that you should change your belts every 40,000 miles when I first got my 1800. The previous owner said they had done it but I wasn't confident with her answer so I changed them at 50k. They still looked good but I had the new ones and I installed them. I believe my old ones went into a 1...

Rear speakers not working

I have a 2012 Navi and I am out on the road and normally I use the speakers in my headset but I now have a rider with no headset so I turned on the speakers. I noticed that the rear speakers are not working. Even with the fader selected all of the way back. The sounds seems to be missing treble but ...

Re: Has your Wing ever left you near stranded....

I had my dog bone go bad on my 1100. I was riding with friends and one recognized the problem right away and the other pulled the inline fuse holder off the heated gear connector on his bike and we in installed it there. We didn't even miss dinner with the rest of the gang. Next time I was in an aut...

Re: 83 gl1100 front tire removal!!

I am out of town so I can't go look at mine right now but you don't need to take the calipers all of the way off. There is one bolt you take out and loosen another and then just swing it up out of the way. Then it is just loosen the punch bolts and remove the axel and the wheel drops out. Mine has t...

Wing Dings can be a lot of fun. It does depend on what you want. If you want to see a lot of different Wings so you can get ideas about what you want to do to your Wing certainly you should go. If you want to see a lot of items that are aimed specifically for your Gold Wing this is a great place to ...

Re: battery size

Great, I just went out to start my 1100 and the battery is dead. No life at all. It was on a tender all cold winter. I had put in a gel cell last year in hopes that it would last more than a couple of years. Guess I lost that one. At least now I don't have to dig out that old one before stopping by ...

Going south but not BRP

I am heading south from Rochester NY to Atlanta GA. I was wondering if there were any recommended routes. The shortest is interstate via Columbus Oh. But that is not fun. I was thinking Through PA, WV, VA etc but I want to stay away from I-81 because it is too crazy with truck traffic. I have done t...

If you are careful in removing the connectors from within the plug you will find that you can take the connector and slide then onto the correct terminal on the bottom of the flasher.

If it is stories you like, a couple of years back I was visiting a friend out of town. He had purchased a Honda Shadow and was learning about riding and taking care of it. He had a coolant leak but felt he had fixed it and was ready to ride. We got a little way down the road and it started to over h...

Re: Apple Cider Vinegar / Electrolsis to clean Gas Tanks GL1

This is the first time I have heard of the Apple Vinegar trick for eliminating rust from your fuel tank. A few years back I had the same problem with rust. I had rebuilt the carbs and found a lot of rust in the bottom of the bowls. Instead of loosing a riding season I ran two fuel filters and change...

I have the whole seat off an '83 Aspencade with a back rest for the driver and passenger. I even have two touring pouches that attach to the trunk. I had a custom seat made to replace them. The seat is maroon with brown sides. No rips or tears. Upholstery could use a little cleaning. I let the whole...

Re: broke, young Goldwing lover. Question for you GL vets

If you talk to any Iron Butt rider they will tell you that your tool kit that you carry on your bike should be equipped to be able to do just about anything on your bike. That covers the storage of tools. A nice big tool box will all kinds of fancy tools is nice but certainly not needed to work on y...
