Re: Antenna for 81 interstate

I just finished a total rebuild and I did away with the tall antenna on the back all together. I purchased a "hide-a-way" antenna and installed it inside my fairing. Had a power wire and a ground, not much to do to install it and it works great.

Re: Restoration complete!

And Old Fogey, I must say I had the pleasure of a one night stay in your county. I was on my way to Kuwait in support of Iraqi Freedom and we stayed in Prestwick. Beautiful area from what I seen in my limited time.

Re: Restoration complete!

I would have to say it was a little of both. All the stuff I did racked up the price rather quickly, so that played a little in the painting of the chrome pieces. The finish was not so great, and I wanted them to look good. I felt the black set it off a little. Didn't want the bike to look like ever...

Carb question.

I am having a problem with fuel getting past the carb and into one of the cylinders on the left side. If I leave the petcock on while the bike is sitting, it hydrolocks. What part of the carb would be causing this? I have had them apart and cleaned but must have missed something. Any help would be a...

Re: Accessory power issue.

Already has the blade fuse and checks good. Power is making it to the regulator/rectifier on the wires coming in from the battery but loose it on the black wire going to the switch and supplying power to all the fuses under the false tank. Sometimes it is there, sometimes not. I loose it after a few...

Accessory power issue.

I have had a new problem come up. When I first turn the key, all the lights on the dash light up as normal. I started the bike and after a few minutes it starts to run ruff, then shuts off. At that point there are no dash lights or accessory power. I checked the main fuse and it is fine, sends the 1...

Re: Cleaning 82 gl1100 carbs

If you don't touch any of the linkage connecting the carbs together, and if they were adjusted right to begin with, you shouldn't have to sync them.

Re: Cleaning 82 gl1100 carbs

Here is what I did, some people don't like the method I use but I have done it twice with no problems and great results. I removed the carb rack as a unit, removed the tops and bowls from each carb keeping track of which on it was from. Cleaned all the parts I removed with carb cleaner. Then I got o...

Re: Saddle bags without the cage.

I'm sorry I should have given a better description. If a gad a good picture I would post it. On my bags, there are two chrome bars that go along the bottom of the bags. The chrome is not in the best of shape and the bike is getting a fresh paint job and would like to not put the chrome back on. If I...

Re: Broken valve cover bolt

If anyone has this problem in the future, be very careful if you try an easy out. I was laying on my side, not wearing my glasses and the drilled for the easy out. Well it got into the threads and snapped. I thought I would have to replace the head but a friend of mine drilled it out and installed a...

Saddle bags without the cage.

Has anyone figured out a way to have the side bags without the cage around it? Looking to clean up the look by not having the guards all around the bike. Pics and info would be appreciated.

81 GL1100 restoration progress.

Well, this has been a 2 year ongoing process. Wanted to show some of the work I have done. I took the bike down to frame and engine. Rims were looking pretty bad so I removed the tires and guts of the rims and blasted them and had my cousins autobody shop paint them. Had the valve covers and timing ...

I would love to be able to afford to totally switch out the shocks, but all at the same time I decided to fix up not only my bike, but my sons F150 and Jeep. So $$ is a little tuff to come by right now so looking for a repair on the cheap. Thanks for the input.

Re: Lets Talk Chemical Carb Rebuild - SEAFOAM

Let me tell you the story about how I cleaned the carbs on my 81 GL110I. As you know the jets are pressed in on the 81 Interstate. The bike had set for a couple years before I purchased it. I took the carb rack out and took it to a guy that has worked on Wings for years. He had them for three weeks,...
