You don't have to remove the mirrors to change the shield.

Re: Auto Tire on the Rear, GL1800

I've only mounted one car tire so far, but I've done many motorcycle tires on my Wings. The car tire actually seated more easily than a motorcycle tire. I have a big air compressor in my shop, I use a locking chuck to connect the air hose to the tire, then turn the regulator up until the beads both ...

Re: Went To The Darkside

I installed that same Kumho Solus on my 1800 last Fall. I mount my own tires, and also have a balancer. My tire was in perfect balance, no weights needed to be moved, removed, or added.

I'm running at 40 PSI and though I've only put about 1000 miles on it.....I love it!

Re: Auto Tire on the Rear, GL1800

You don't have to let the air out to fit the wheel on the bike. A car tire will rub on the inner fender on it's way into place......NOT once in place......only while installing. When this happened to me, I just put a smear of GoJo hand cleaner on the top outer edge of the tire where it rubs. It then...

Re: Battery Maintainer at Walmart

I have two of the older (probably 5 years) Shumacher battery maintainers. I rotate their use on my two bikes and my motorhome. They have worked perfectly. My motorhome has two batteries, so I made up a fused jumper to parallel them together and maintain both batteries at once. I should mention that ...

Re: Reversing Fans (Requesting Info)

The 2006 and newer Wings are not immune to this engineering fault. My 2007 temperature will begin to climb when ridden at 20 to 25 MPH for enough distance.

Re: Reversing Fans (Requesting Info)

If reversing you are pulling hot air from the engine and also losing the self cleaning benefits of changing the airflow. What? I understand what he's saying. My fans seldom run, but when they do, I can see bugs being blown forwards out of the radiators. Normal flow is front to rear (through the rad...

Re: 2002 Goldwing Frame Issue??

I bought my former 2002 in late 2001. It was recalled for frame inspection, and passed with flying colors. You can do a "home" inspection yourself, if you do some goggle searching and learn where to look. I had already done a "home" inspection before I even received the recall notice. The suspect ar...

Re: Tire Change Issues?

yes, your first change will be a challenge. Use wood blocks to keep the opposite tire bead positioned in the wheel drop center and use a good lube. If you start getting frustrated, walk away and come back later.

Re: cruise control surge on 2012

Here's a link to another forum with a picture of the adjustment device. Be aware that 2012 owners say it has been relocated. Apparently Honda has gone to over setting them now, on the older models they were underset and that caused a lag. http://gl1800riders.com/forums/showthread.php?t=294331&highli...

Re: cruise control surge on 2012

Assuming that the cruise has not changed from what is used on the 2001 to 2010, it sounds like it is set a little too "tight". Both my old 2002 and my present 2007 had the cruise set too "loose" as delivered, same as you say your 2005 behaves. My 2007 is now set a bit "tight" and surges as you descr...

Re: head lite bulbs

If your 1500 is pre-1998, you can use an automotive 9003 bulb.......it's both cheaper, and higher wattage.

If your 1500 is 1998-2000, it will require an adapter ring available from Electrical Connection to allow the use of the same 9003 bulb.

It hurts nothing to just leave the cruise turned on. My 2002 was on for 6 years, my 2007 has been on for 4 years.

Re: Saddlebag won't open

Yes, there is an emergency opener in the floor of the trunk. I don't remember exactly (I haven't had to use mine), but you insert your finger into the hole on whichever side is stuck and trip the lever. It's fairly common for the saddlebag cable to come loose. Remove the panel at the floor/rear of t...

Re: Auto Tire on the Rear, GL1800

After years of thought and research, I recently put a car tire on my 1800. I'm impressed with the handling, and I'm actually pushing through the twisties a little harder than I did with a MT. It also "mitigated" some of my odometer error. I won't try to sell anyone on "darksiding", but in the thousa...

Re: Belly pans

Not all belly pans are (I guess) the same, since mine has two d'zus fasteners. Was on the bike when I bought it 8-) Mine too. It is a Tulsa brand, and only the forward section has to be removed for oil and filter changes. However, to remove it entirely, you only need to loosen the 4 acorn nuts........

Re: What is the spec for Idle RPM's?

Yup, 700 RPM or so. I gotta ask, when you did the ECM reset, did you start it cold, then let it idle without touching the throttle until the fans cycled? If the throttle is moved at all, or the engine is not brought to full operating temperature, the procedure has to be repeated. And, what is a char...
