Re: Reverse

The clutch is hydraulic, "if" the lever has no pressure it isn't working. I would address that before anything else.

Re: '89 GL1500 cruise diagnostics

Possibly a dirty set switch. Will need cleaning. Some have had success spraying contact cleaner into the housing and working the switch. I had to open mine up to clean properly.

Re: 97 GL1500 drive shaft line up

A floppy U-Joint is not abnormal. To get the U-joint to align with the drive shaft, slide a piece 1/8" thick by 1" wide steel flat stock, or similar material, into the swing arm and slide it under the U-Joint to prop it up. Now slide the drive line into the swing arm so it mates with the U-Joint. W...

Re: Here's a new one for ya!

I wonder about the battery location above the left footpeg. On the side stand would anything be able to drip from the battery tray? i.e. condensation, accumulation of rain/roadspray "activating" any residual acid that may reside in/on the battery or battery tray? Early CB750's were susceptible to c...

Tried that but clutch has no resistance or pressure when pulled thought maybe with bike not running that was normal
What do you mean by "clutch has no resistance or pressure"? Am I/others missing something? Clutch is the same with engine running or not.

The petcock is inside the fuel door. It is vacuum operated. No on / off. I suppose you could pull the vacuum line. Never thought about this ???

Re: New GL1500 owner here

If the clutch master is empty you need to check for fluid leakage at the slave cylinder. If no leakage seen you may have a bad seal between the engine and the slave with the brake fluid entering the engine and mixing with the oil. Not good.

Re: 1100 throttle lock and dipstick

I recommend using a Crampbuster instead of a throttle lock. Especially on a bike without an electronic rev limiter, such as the GL1100. My GL1100 had a throttle lock when I bought it and it slowly grooved into the throttle tube plastic. One day on a freeway on-ramp I cracked open the throttle and t...

Re: 1100 throttle lock and dipstick

The oil dipstick is no longer made. Look over at NGW site. Someone over there makes a dipstick. Or used to. ???

Re: Valve cover gasket leak

There is the possibility the leak is from one of the cam oil seals. The oil will migrate down to the gasket. You can also put washers under the bolt heads which will draw the covers down tighter.

Re: New Member in Central Illinois

Next you need to change the timing belts. Sitting around for that long will set the belts. They could easily break and damage the valves and / or the pistons. There are instructions in the How To section.

Headlight modulation is a governed at the federal level. Google (Title 49 cfr). Local ordinances have no say in this. Head lights can only be modulated with either high of low beam. Not both. High beams are used on all of the modulators I have seen. http://www.webbikeworld.com/Motorcycle-technical-a...

Re: trailer size

A picture would be nice. That size isn't to large. Weight is more important. My personal experience is owning two trailers since the 80s. Both with 8 in. wheels and a combined mileage of around 100k miles. I have never had a problem with over heating hubs and bearings. The tires have lasted appx. 20...
