Re: Gl1100 starter aftermarket

There are cheap aftermarket starters that have plastic planetary reduction gearsets in them, that perform and last just as long as you would expect them to - so watch out for them. If it seems too cheap, i.e. too good to be true, it probably is. Exactly why I am asking for references here. His is a...

Read this "How To" to repair. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=690 . No the fairing doesn't come apart. You can access the underside of the hole by removing the fairing pocket cover and then the pocket.

Re: Electricity 101

The common idea is the "red" wire is the "hot" wire....In DC electronics reality,, it is not... Electricity(moving electrons) is provided from the negative terminal of the battery...The electrons actually flow through the frame to all the individual grounds, into the "load"..(ex.light bulb) and then...

75/77 had brackets but they were straight not L shaped as the 78/79. 1980 on had no brackets. I doubt they are needed. ???

Re: Battery relocate to trunk??

#1, the size of the alternator has zilch to do with the need for the battery size. he has an AGM and that is all he needs. #2, placing it in the saddle bag, or the trunk is just downright dangerous, and will eventually break the plastics. there is no way to support that kind of load in the saddle b...

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you've got everything in order. Most used belts "look" new just before they break. Not a good idea to reuse.

Valve cover gaskets, cam shaft seals, or perhaps the tach cable o-ring on right side. Left side could also be a shift shaft seal.

Re: diesel oil?

I have heard of using heavy duty diesel oil in the GL 1100. I think I recall Randakks suggesting its use, Rotella being the oil of choice. Is anyone running this in their bike? Of course you cant use car oil as it breaks down way to fast but diesel sounds like it would work. Thoughts? I use diesel ...

Re: Which tire?

I have an e4 on the rear of my 1500. 5k miles. I couldn't be happier with it. I have ridden in all conditions including rain slick twisties. Never a problem. Tire replaced was an e3. I hated that tire. Removed it early because of the noise and cupping. Sounded like I was riding on a tractor tire. Th...
