Re: Front Brake Problem

Did you by any chance put new seals in? If you did, and didn't clean out the grooves they fit into, that might be causing the problem. When you had the calipers off, did you clean the slider pins and grease them? Just a couple of suggestions.

[quote="sportsfreaked If it wasn't on the center stand and it was on the kickstand then that could explain the smoke out of the one side. One thing for sure is if you are going to keep it then change the timing belts before riding! If they break then you may need a new head :o . Best of luck to you!...

Re: GL1100a 1982 aspencade Rear brake keeps seizing

Bleeding is a nightmare - I just cant get any brake fluid to reach the rear caliper - or should I say from the rear bleed nipple - the brake fluid reservoir has not gone down at all apart from the initial drop in level when the fluid reached the rear master cylinder. So by the looks of it the rear ...

In my experience, this is typically due to problems with the diaphragms in the air cut-off valves. Just a thought....

Re: 81GL1100 running funny and knock when warming up (new to 'Wings)

Can anyone point me in the direction of some easy to read instructions on how to change timing belts and check/adjust the timing. There doesn't seem to be anything about it in the how to articles and I only found one video on youtube pertaining to the GL1100 that started with things half way done a...

Re: PO problems

fuel pump tested with carbs off, plugs out,one-one-thousand,two one-thousand up to five one thousand.produced 1/2 cup of gas. If I'm understanding you correctly, you're saying you got 4 oz of gas in 5 seconds. That's 48 oz in one minute -- way too much. Should be about 15-16 oz/min. Hopefully, one ...

Re: GL1100 starts to run bad on freeway

Well I wasnt able to do a pressure test but I did remove the fuel line to the carb and I am getting good volume and pressure the best I can tell. That's not a very definitive test. If you disconnect the fuel line from the carbs and put it into a bottle, run the engine at 3000 rpm and you should get...

Just so there is no confusion: Plugs 1 & 2 are in the front; plugs 3 & 4 are in the rear. 1 & 3 are on the right as you sit n the bike.

Re: 1982 GL1100 Spraying Oil

You say their is oil on top of engine after a run? Have you checked the engine breather hose that connects to the top of the rear of the engine? If its off it could cause oil loss that appears on the top of the engine but this does not explain the smoke. Could the oil from the breather hose have dr...

the gas formula we have around the big cities is horrible and starts to decompose after just 23 days. Do you believe a different composition is used in small markets? Gas going bad over time certainly isn't a new phenomenon. I think this was a reference to the fact that in large metropolitan areas ...

Thank you both. 16W doesn't seem like much -- just 1.333 amps, right? What is the maximum current draw that you can run on these bikes with, say, an AGM battery rated at 350CCA, before starting to run down the battery, assuming the OEM stator is installed?

Could someone enlighten me? Turn signals are used relatively infrequently -- compared to the taillights, headlights and any aftermarket running lights. Does the amperage draw you save with LED turn signal lights make a significant difference?

Thanks.

Just to clarify: The motor oil you put in the engine -- many on this site like 15w 40 -- doubles as the transmission fluid. Transmission fluid is not used in the engine.

When you replaced the timing belts, did you notice that on the right camshaft pulley, the correct timing mark is the least noticeable? Guess how I know this. See picture (below ad at the moment).

You might also consider taking the battery to most any auto supply store, give them the rated CCA (cold cranking amps) and ask them to check the battery's overall condition. They have a meter that will tell you whether or not the battery will hold a charge. Sounds as if yours might not. Just a thoug...

With that said I eyeball the float and adjust with blowing the fuel inle, when it shuts the flow off and the float is level with bowl or body I stop. That's the easy way! I'm afraid I don't quite understand how you are doing this. How are you "blowing the fuel inle(t)"? And are the carbs perfectly ...
