Sudden loss of low end power

Hey folks, My 79' Gl1000 usually runs great, but the other day I started it and idle was a joke. When I gave it throttle the higher RPM's evened out, not entirely but enough to drive around the neighborhood. I thought simple fix at first, just debris in the bowl or clogged jet. I have had that in ma...

Side car for GL1000

Anybody have a used side car or know where I can find one? The wife has knee problems and this is a good solution. I'm having some trouble finding one in my price range, under two thousand. New ones are nice, but wouldn't really be in the same style as my bike.

Re: '77 GL1000 Parts bike

Thanks for the responses folks. The price is negotiable and the title can be changed with a little bit of detective work, the previous owner lived locally and I have his title on hand. I haven't had a chance to post anything on E-Bay yet, sorry. I hope to have the E-Bay set up in the next two weeks ...

'79 GL1000 no power!

Just put a new after market starter on and now the bike doesn't seem to have any power and pops during idle or downshift. The Idle is a joke. Any suggestions?

'77 GL1000 Parts bike

I recently purchased a '77 GL1000 for a parts bike. I currently own a '79 and have taken off what I need for mine so if anyone out there wants parts or the rest of it contact me here and let's make a deal. I'll be putting it up for bids either a piece at a time or as is on E-Bay. I would much rather...

'79 GL1000 start/kill switch

The problem starting my GL1000 has been found. When taking the start/kill assembly apart to spray some electrical contact inside I noticed that the start switch looked fried and upon closer inspection the contacts are burned so badly I need to find a new or used switch assembly. Not an easy part to ...

Re: GL1000 Starting problem

I know what you mean, I've forgotten to check the kill switch three or four times, so what you said made me laugh at myself again, but not this time. I checked it first, for once. The starter worked just before the solenoid quit, it stopped clicking. Changing the solenoid has returned the click when...

GL1000 Starting problem

My '79 GL1000 has decided to not start and I need help diagnosing the problem. I replaced the solenoid and cross checked the terminals to see if the starter will turn over as it did before the change, no dice. I hesitate to take the starter out to bench test it, but if I have to I will. Are there an...

'79 GL1000

I have to replace the solenoid on my wing. The bike has low mileage and when I took the busted one off it looked like an original part. The new one is supposed to, according to the supplier and a mechanic, be mounted with the terminals pointed down instead of up like the manual says. Can I mount the...

spring fever

I just want to thank you guys for all the helpful info about my '79 GL1000. It's a sweet ride and I really look forward to getting back on it after getting a new hip in January. With the help of the DIY articles I've made my own synchro kit for the carbs and ordered electrical parts from the site sa...

Re: 77 GL 1000 sitting for 10 years..

I have a '79 GL1000 and love it. I would take the time to have the whole bike looked at by a mechanic you trust familiar with the older models. The book for one in trade-in is about $1100, but that is in good running condition. If you wanted to just sell it as is I would recommend $600-800. If you d...

Re: 1979 GL1000

My thanks to Hal for the info on having new personal body parts. It never occured to me their might be limits to sitting on a newer Goldwing. I have a buddy that comes back this spring from a ride to California from North Carolina on his 2010 wing. He and his wife should be back in time for me to ma...

1979 GL1000

I'm hoping someone out there can help me with a dilema. I'm the second owner of a sweet 1979 GL1000 with full Vetter fairings and Hondaline bags. As far as know it has approximately 28,000 original miles and runs great. By the look of it the previous owner kept the bike very well maintained, even as...

Sell my GL1000?

I have the unfortunate process of getting a new hip this year, I got a new knee last year, and may have to sell my '79 GL1000. I've been seeing a real contrast in prices for them. Does anyone have any idea as to a fair price? It has original Hondaline hard bags, a full Windjammer fairing, AM/FM/CD/S...

Re: 1979 Gold Wing Purchase-Questions-Info

I sugest getting the basic repair manual sold through Goldwings.com. I own a used GL1000 I bought last year with 26,000 original miles and replaced the clutch myself. It's a lot of work, but well worth it. I discovered many 'Wires to nowhere' that were not terminated correctly and were draining my e...
