Re: Reverse for a 1976 Goldwing 1000gl

Back in the '80's I remember seeing an aftermarket reverse kit for touring bikes. it was an electric motor that ran on the front of the rear wheel. I don't remember who made it . Have you tried a Google search ? There is a reverse kit that is made for the Harley Trike's. Seen/installed one of those...

Re: Reverse for a 1976 Goldwing 1000gl

I don't remember ever seeing a reverse for the GL1000. The best, easiest and (actually) the least expensive solution would be to buy a gently used GL1500. Having a factory reverse was a game changer the first time I rode one…. me and the wife drove up to a cafe, found the side of the parking lot tha...

Re: San Antonio, Texas needs help

I can't tell you where the speaker wires are.... you'll just have to hunt them down and re-route them. But maybe there's something easy about the radio. Honda used to have a service bulletin about 'power outage when going over bumps'. If you remove the radio and look down inside the housing (the one...

Re: GWRRA Members ???

I used to look forward to the monthly meetings but the time/distance I had to travel (almost 1 hr each way) became too much of a hassle. Plus by the time the meetings 50/50 tickets, gift contributions, paying for breakfast, and maybe a ride-after-meeting it was normally a $100 day. All-in-all I enjo...

Carmichael Honda was sold to a new owner and moved to Roseville a few months ago. I have no clue if it's the same crew that worked at CMH or not.
They are not connected with Roseville Honda... or so I've been told.

Re: Clicking sound

Wing Worx used to be in Rancho Cordova… then moved up near the airport. Before moving they lost their mechanic…. and went out of business about a year (+/-) later.

There's WingNut down in Fairfield.

Re: Which Air Filter for 1984 Goldwing Interstate

The filter with 2 holes should fit. The 2nd hold is for the LTD and SEi version. There's an air sensor that fits into the air box top and then is supposed to fit into the hole in the filter. It's supposed to have a rubber grommet with a center hole for the sensor to fit into. Put some duct tape over...

If there is a way.... I'd like to know about it. As far as I know you have to disassemble the dash to gain access to the speaker covers. Sorry... no quicky way.

Re: front speaker grill coversa

Just because I had the same problem... I'd stay away from trying to glue the old fiber covers back on. I used some of my wife's old black pantyhose; cut them to the appropriate shape and it looks better than new.

Re: '86 Fork seals...Who's are Best?

Well…. it's obvious that you're going to take both seal sets out again. And you are going to measure both seals to make sure they are i-dentical. You'll also make sure that both seals were installed right-side up. And you'll also measure the inside surface where the seal sets in the fork. I think yo...

Re: 88 GL quits running

My 88 had the fuel pump go out and it was similar to your experience. But…. there are other things it might be. Try: removing the fuel cap… or just loosen it and start the engine. The Pulse Generator is famous for working when the bike is cool and failing as it heats up. Generally the bike would hav...

Re: 1 exhaust alot hotter than the other

From all this...poor running, much hotter on one side,I could point to only 2 possibilities... Fuel restriction in that carb or a leaking vacuum line at the manifold ..Or a inbalance in the exhaust...The hot side passes more through it than the other.... That's the first thing I thought of…. fuel re...

Re: newby On the verge but 1997 1500SE

It sounds like a fuel delivery problem. There are classic problems with the fuel pumps and vacuum fuel valves. There are rebuild kits for the vacuum fuel valves…. ebay under 'rebuild fuel pumps' will bring up the rebuild kits. There used to be a rebuild kit for fuel pumps also but they seem to have ...

Re: Break plastics

Someone, somewhere in the past, has worked on the brakes (like maybe doing a brake fluid flush) and gotten brake fluid on their hands. Wiped off the brake fluid with a rag and then handled the plastic. The residue gradually eats at the plastic and any stress will cause an easy crack. The 'drip' dama...

Re: GL1500 stock seat mounting bolts problem.

Drilling some access holes is probably the best bet. From the looks of the trike it's a BAD DESIGN! PERIOD

You might help with the bolts if you taper the ends of the threads on a grinding wheel. A dull point works best.

The tach cable thing makes no sense. There's no electrical associated with the cable and tach other than the lights to illuminate the tach at night and the instrument lights. Ok… it's in the switch. Probably poor connections. Get some mild contact cleaner, open up the switch and spray the contact cl...

Re: Electrical

When you say 'by moving it just a little they start to blink'…. are you talking about moving the turn signal? That sounds like a ground problem. Disassemble the housing and check the ground.
The tach is cable powered so there shouldn't be any correlation between electricity and a cable.

Re: 1993 SE

I guess it would help to know if you can tell exactly WHAT IS LEAKING?? Oil, Coolant, Brake fluid?? If it's oil then it's maybe a loose oil drain bolt or oil filter. I know that when you change the oil filter you need to double check if the old seal is stuck to the engine. If you miss it and spin on...

Re: K&N Air filter vs Paper Filter

I've got a different take on the K&N filter debate. Regardless of the air flow, size of filter holes or filter material I think the biggest downfall of the K&N is the lack of proper servicing. The filter requires regular cleaning, drying and re-oiling. Since this requires a 'cleaning kit' from K&N i...

Re: 83 Interstate rear master cylinder

If you find one with light pitting … it can be honed out. Most decent bike shops will have a hone to fit. But make sure to instruct them that you only want 1 'in and out' hone. Nothing extreme. It's soft material and will enlarge easily if the hone is overdone.

It shows as NA… not available. You're doing what is going to become habit…. searching for a 'good' used unit that doesn't have
any or little pitting. Good luck…. remember it's a 29 year old motorcycle.

No, there's no consistent way to measure for excessive play in the dampers. But…. considering that it's 'the best way' without removing the rear wheel I stand by my post. There's a lot of potential play that is between the transmission and the rear wheel. Fortunately, from experience, there are 2 po...
