Re: How cold will ya'll ride?

Took the bike down to Mercer Island and back on a service call this morning, about 80 miles round trip. It was a couple degrees below freezing but the roads were dry. I layered up pretty good and was cozy but my hands were starting to get pretty cold toward the end there. I discovered that when at ...

Re: Don't believe it when they tell you....

I will mention an idea that I have seen used by manufacturers owners and techs, if the part in question can't be marked such as a drain plug that won't be replaced, clean the area well and put a dab of paint on the item and the surrounding area. If the plug or whatever is taken out the paint seal i...

Re: Airbag recall finally reaches Canada

yes, the gears at Honda turn very slow. I was notified of a recall here in Australia on 30th June 2016 and the letter stated I would be notified when the parts were available. I rang our two Gold Wing dealers and they knew nothing about it. After many phone calls over many months I finally had it d...

Re: 1996 1500 aspy clock

I have a 96 aspy now, and the digital clock dont keep time. Sometimes, the minute will change every 8 seconds. I've never bothered to set it for oblivious reasons....any thoughts? A fairly well-known issue. Often disassembling the LCD's circuit board from the LCD assembly and cleaning it with conta...

That looks like a nice isolator admin. Just one quick question if you don't mind. After you had the unit installed where did you run that black wire harness to get those wires down to the hitch. When I installed it I tucked the isolator itself back under the trunk (you'll see there are cubbies near...

Re: Pulse Generator color code

It depends on whether you're talking about the non-fuel injected or fuel-injected GL1200. The non-fuel injected 84 GL1200 has the pulse generators on the back of the engine: GL1200 Pulse Generators.GIF 85 and later has them on the front: GL1200 85 Pulse Generators.GIF The circuit shows the yellow an...

Re: REPLACE EXHAUST MANIFOLD STUD

Lots of penetrating oil, patience, and heat differential, as you mentioned. You can get the engine up to temperature, and further help by putting ice on the stud. The engine expands from the heat, the stud contracts from the cold, and you have a better chance of getting it out in one piece as a resu...

Re: Potential Purchase of 1993 low mileage GL1500 Timing belt Question

I just replaced the belt on my 97. They were original and had 80k on them. They looked fine all.in all but it is well worth the piece of mind. It takes a bit to get at them but really not a hard job. It took me about 4 hours but I also did a cruise control adjustment at the same time so it's probab...

Re: Antifreeze leak?

This is fairly common. You can try to find the offending hose and tighten it, or wait until spring and warmer weather, and it will likely solve itself. :) As long as it's just a few drops, I'd probably not worry about it unless it continues after it warms up again.

I think it's a tribute to these bikes that the front end can be in such dire condition as yours...and yet they still ride. :)

Re: engine died, lost 12 volts to fuel pumo

I had an almost identical problem recently with my 94A. I started it up (after it had sat for a few weeks) and it ran until it apparently ran out of gas at the carb. I won't go into the painful details of my 'trouble shooting', but it turned out to be the BATTERY. Yes, the voltage to the pump was l...

Re: Potential Purchase of 1993 low mileage GL1500 Timing belt Question

Thanks all, exactly what I was thinking. I'm currently looking a few different bikes and whichever one I do end up getting, I'll be replacing the belts for sure since they all are relatively low mileage bikes. It's amazing tho, I recently talked to an old school Honda certified motorcycle mechanic ...

Re: 1988 1500 Hoses

As you have discovered, Honda has discontinued quite a few of the carb hoses that have 90 degree bends in them. Several site members have constructed their own by using straight pieces of hose and brass or stainless steel 90 degree elbows with barbed fittings. The hoses are cut to size and pushed on...

Re: GL1500 radio memory solved

I agree, Deoxit is good stuff, but it is very expensive. I have a two-stage cleaner from Deoxit where one removes oxidation, the other coats and protects - they work better than anything I've ever used before, but they are TINY little cans (about 2 ounces) and the two together were over $20.

Re: Project: 1984 Aspencade (GL1200) Revival

The trigger wheel has to be there, to excite the pulse generators. Otherwise the ECU has no idea what position the engine crank is at, and therefore doesn't know when to fire the plugs. It can't just "guess" - firing a plug at the wrong point in the cycle (i.e. early in the compression stage) would ...

Re: Going back to OEM from floor board & heal/toe shifter

It's a whole other thing on a trike. You don't have to put your feet down & bruise your shins on the stupid things. Don't want to turn this into an argument but my 2009 Venture came with floorboards and heel/toe shifter and only two wheels before I eventually had it triked. Lots of bikes come with ...

You might want to look into the Electrical Connection Power Plate - designed specifically for the GL1500, and once you replace the garbage relay it comes with, with a decent 40 amp automotive relay, it works great.
