Re: Backfire when ignition switched on

Does it do this if the bike has been sitting for a while? Or does it do it if you have just shut it off, and then turn it back on? Or both?

Re: How to rebuild your rear master cylinder

You might want to also pull the rear brake lever off, clean off the corrosion on the pivot, pack it with tons of grease, and reassemble. That pivot corroding is a very common cause of rear brake lockup. Man am I glad you mentioned that. :o I expected once I had the master cylinder off that the leve...

Maybe I'm cheap, but I use pennies instead of quarters. :) Also, use needle-nose pliers to insert them:

Interesting -they're powder coated steel (I suppose you couldn't bolt plastic to the block like they are doing). I definitely like the look. They should sell well.

Re: Accessories

That's something I've wondered about - pulling a trailer with the new GL1800. I know Big Bike Parts is working on a trailer hitch for it, and I'm sure others are as well. For the six speed GL1800, it should be a non-issue. But when it comes to the DCT...that's another thing. The DCT has to do things...

I'd like to travel to Cedar Point in Ohio this year with my wife but, I'm concerned about parking the motorcycle. Has anyone here rode there Goldwing to Cedar Point in Ohio and parked their Goldwing? Do they have a seperate section to park motorcycles? I would be worried about people messing with i...

Re: another clutch question

You need to figure out why it's empty. It is a closed system, so it should never be "using up" clutch fluid. If there is an obvious leak (i.e. stains on the ground under the bike) that's one thing - but if there is no obvious leak, and the clutch fluid is disappearing, chances are it's disappearing ...

Re: New to me GL1500SE, so much good info here!

Earlier when I first got this Goldwing from my dad I had ridden around in some pretty cold (but dry) weather and was impressed with the heater vents in the lower fairings. I must not have paid very close attention to which lever position was cold air and which was hot air because as I was replacing...

Re: Best manual?

For my cars I always used a Haynes manual, but as I got more and more experienced, I found that the amount of useful information in them that was either a) not patently obvious, or b) something that I didn't already know, was diminishing. Also, you'd get a Haynes manual that dedicated four pages on ...

Re: Need Parts

I like CycleMax, but, like you said, the shipping is pretty high, so I only use them when I have a relatively large number of items to order. I've had people complain the same thing (shipping cost). The fact is, that I (and Cyclemax) charge the actual shipping rate - we don't make profit on shippin...

Re: Coolant leak from weep hole

I had this happen when I changed the water pump on my 1100. It is REALLY easy to roll one of the O-rings when you insert the pump, and if you do, this is the result. I had to take mine apart again, pull the water pump and re-insert it. The second time, when I inserted it, I coated the O-rings with a...

Re: Counteract or Dyna Beads and Avon trike tire?

The downside to either of these solutions is it prevents the use of a tyre sealant (Slime, etc) inside your tyre!! Slime will destroy the balance of a good tire, even if it don't have beads inside. the stuff just does NOT stay liquid.... got a lot of proof of that in my golf cart and lawn tractor t...

Re: Counteract or Dyna Beads and Avon trike tire?

I've used Dyna Beads for years. With my last tire change, I tried Counteract. No discernable difference in performance, once I take these tires off (which will be soon) I'll take some pictures of the insides to compare to the ones I took when I had Dyna Beads in them.

At least it appears fused. It would be interesting to see what it looks like on the underside. Definitely looks like a home-made power distribution strip.

I agree that his design is great. It does resolve the issue with little effort. Have you looked at the shifter on the new 1800? It's a short arm at the block with a link rod back to the shift lever. It resolved the 1500 shift lever design flaw. Yes, it's one of the things I specifically looked at whe...

Starting to see fibres showing up in the fuel pump inlet screen on my bike. Time to change the fuel lines. Put this on your list for next winter.
