Re: Adding an Aux input to the GL1500 radio

I get the vast majority of my electronic parts from http://www.Digikey.com and http://www.mouser.com - either will have decent, quality audio transformers. You want one with relatively low impedance, look for around 300-600 ohms, and good frequency response. This one has excellent frequency response...

Re: Starter clutch and stator removal and replacement

WD-40 is not a cleaner or degreaser, in fact it will actually leave an oily residue behind - as it is designed to do. What you want to be using is a solvent that evaporates completely, leaving behind no residue at all. I use brake cleaner for this: https://www.amazon.com/CRC-Brakleen-Brake-Parts-Cle...

I don't use my phone for forums, only a PC and I can't seem to stay logged in either. Have cleared cookies, twice with no results. Re: Additional rear turn indicators, 1982 GL1100A

I am planning to mount additional LED turn indicators under the trunk to either side of the taillight assembly on my bike. Can I splice into the appropriate wires to either side and leave the original luggage-lights functioning? Or is this an either/or situation? If I just spice in, will there be a...

Re: Adding an Aux input to the GL1500 radio

Can you show how you did it? I do not understanded how to build this. Sorry for the crude drawing, I drew this on my phone. It's basically two audio transformers. If the transformers have a center tap, the center tape remains unconnected and unused. The Left and Right inputs (along with their groun...

Re: Headset speaker opinions

My GL came with a pair of J&M headsets which I was told work fine. They were installed in some cheap 3/4 helmets we won't be using. When I tried to fit it to my helmet (which has pockets for speakers) and is a full face, they barley fit and when I tried my helmet on I could not get it on. The speak...

Re: Time to "poke the bear"

The GL1500 is a power-hungry beast, it does not tolerate weak batteries. A Wal-Mart "Neverstart" cheapie is cheap today, but more expensive in the long run. My last Yuasa AGM lasted just over 6 years, I now have a MotoBatt AGM - doesn't cost a whole lot more than the Wal-Mart cheapie, and so far it'...

Re: Headlight, One side not working?

Thanks, I will take out the headlight and see if it's just the bulb or not. After I posted this request, I did find in the Specifications section, that there are (2) headlight bulbs, so it makes sense that the one bulb either has both filaments burned out, or there is a bad connection. Will check t...

Re: Progressive Suspension 416 Serie Problem

Problem solved; I got the tip that is on the bolt a sleeve that can be removed. Have the sleeve cut open and removed. p007_1_77z.jpg Your problem is that the sleeve is not part of the bolt. It should not be there. It is actually part of the shock, and it came out with the bolt when you removed it. ...

I think MikeB might be on the right track with the reverse lever switch. It didn't turn over again yesterday morning so I pulled out the reverse lever and pushed it back in then it fired right up and was fine the rest of the day. I think I'll still need to wait until it stops cranking permanently t...

Re: Lost power and then spitting back

The clue is "15 minutes at 70 mph." You were demanding a large volume of fuel flow, and the fuel delivery system wasn't able to keep up. As a result, you emptied the carb float bowl, and the engine started to miss and run lean. Once you slowed down, the fuel deilvery system caught up, filled the flo...

Re: Blackwing fork brace - any hints on where to get??

There is legal history between Blackwing and Superbrace. Blackwing prevailed in the legal case, but Superbrace has since told its dealers that they will not supply their product to any dealer that also sells Blackwing braces, in an attempt to drive them out of business. This is why you can't find Bl...

Hey WingAdmin, Where would you source those 90 degree brass or stainless hoses with the barbed ends? I have just pulled the carb on my '92 SE, and am looking to check the hoses over, and replace what's necessary. Do they come in a variety of sizes, and where to get them would be a big help. Yes, when disassembled, the circuit board is directly behind the LCD:

Re: Adding an Aux input to the GL1500 radio

The ground loop isolator is really essential for this input, or you WILL have ground loop noise. As I mentioned, when I installed this into my radio, I used a couple of audio transformers and built them right into the radio as part of the input circuitry to perform as a built-in ground loop isolator.

Re: How to replace your dash lights with LEDs

Thank you for getting back to me. I'm not sure what was wrong but when I plugged everything back together the turn signals worked correctly. I use a 1.2k 1/2w resister for the cruise lights and they work correctly. If I understand it right. The 1/2w will put off less heat. Also I put in 74- 3 SMD b...

Question: Does it blow the fuse without the charger plugged in? Or does it work fine, and when you plug the charger in, it blows the fuse? If it is the latter, then there are only really two possible options: - The phone charger is bad. Try plugging it into your car. If it blows the fuse there too, ...

Re: New To Me - Second 1985 Limited - New Project

That GPS mount looks solid - keep in mind you want it solid enough to hold the GPS securely without vibrating, but you want it to be able to give if need be. I will typically either mount it to plastic that will "give" if need be, or I'll make the mounting arm out of aluminum stock that is stiff, bu...

Re: SocalMotoGear Pathfinder LED Headlights

Your capacitor values are close enough - I did not do a frequency analysis/calculation to derive the values, they were just what I had on hand, and like John said, three different sizes to filter the different frequencies and harmonics in the noise. The circuit is exactly what you see in the picture...

Re: Why use the radio speakers

I use the speakers for entertainment sometimes when I'm in the garage working on the bike. :) Apart from that, I always have the headset in my helmet playing. With earplugs in while riding, I'd have to have the speakers so loud that I figure it would be obnoxious to those around me.

Re: Drain carbs for winter storage, or just add Stabil and keep carbs full?

Depends on the vintage of the bike. If like my 1500 and newer bikes, you have an electric fuel pump there is an easier way. I wired in a miniature toggle switch into my Fuel pump circuit. I fill my tank with ethanol free and stabil. Ride it home and Flip the toggle switch, then let it run until it ...
