Re: 89 GL1500 Carb synchronization

It's hard to see at first and you need a loooooong screwdriver...It's on the front of the right carb.Access is through the frame from the right side.

See the screw right above and to the left of the link arm with the spring on it?

Re: Front break lever and lights

I guess my question is when they fail to operate with the brake lever will the foot brake activate the light? I'm just speculating but my 88 brake lights are operated by a relay...the relay is operated by switches..one at the brake handle and foot lever. If neither operate the light, check the relay....

Re: Popping while idling

Exhaust popping is unburnt fuel passing through the cylinder(s)...then explodes in the exhaust. From my point of view,I would first listen to each exhaust pipe to tell if it's more prevelent to one side. The next step is to remove the spark plugs on that side(or all if necessary). Inspect each plug ...

Re: What are the symtoms of fuel pump relay failure ???

I'm referencing my 88. It has the oem ignition control module and carb control module. The fuel pump is operated by a special "relay". This relay does provide a short self test when power is applied in the form of a 2 second volts to the pump. After that, ignition pulses from the ignition coil keep th...

Re: fuel pump test !!!

Yes to the relay.Its #8.
If the bank angle switch is ok,this relay should click when you turn on the key.It feeds main power to the ignition.
It can be swapped with another for testing before just buying another one.
Also,my pump will "cycle"every time the kill switch is cycled.

Re: best way to reinstall Front Brakes Piston

Leave the "O" ring out.Gently slide the piston in.If it sticks, remove and polish the area that's causing it to stick. The piston should slide smooth to the bottom and back out.Clean the seal groove.Coat the seal and piston with brake fluid. The piston should push in firm with 2 thumb pressure to the b...

Re: GPS Wiring solution

Same with my older Tom Tom. I had a generic plug adaptor and it would constantly discharge.I replaced both the adaptor with a 1500ma. one and a shorter/heavier USB cord to resolve this. This is an interesting problem...I find that some of my portable devices simply are designed to run on it's batter...

Re: heats up Farley quick

My 88 also kicks in the fans then cycles back off in slow traffic.Do check the coolant level in the radiator at least if you don't plan on replacing the antifreeze. The noise...Mine is quiet.A bit of rattle that goes away if I pull in the clutch lever. If yours doesn't...better pop the front covers ...

Re: Electrics - Starter Motor

Please do not assume your starter is bad.
Verify this first.A simple volt meter would help.
Do measure battery volts when trying to start the bike.Above 11.5 volts is good.
Here's the schematic to help follow where the volts go.

Re: GL1100 first startup - Sensitive Throttle - White Smoke

Each carb has that throttle return spring. The cable return spring is behind the plate that the cables attach to.It is adjustable by loosening the 10mm bolt and twisting against the spring.

Right side intake runner.
Like I said before...

Good luck and keep us updated.

Re: GL1100 first startup - Sensitive Throttle - White Smoke

Caliper.Hand pump grease into it. Sync the carbs at 1000 rpm to smooth the rattle. Sweet white smoke.Dont rip it apart till you confirm.Keep a eye on the coolant level and spark plugs for telltales. Yes they can belch smoke.Especially from setting up and on the side stand. Throttle handle doesn't ro...

Re: Vacuum line issue

No picture...but the one in my mind.
At the back side of #3 carb(right rear) there is a small port that connects to the vacuum advance canister.
Keep in mind..it does not have a vacuum at idle and should pull up to 7'' of vacuum when reved up.

Keep in mind about the fuel valve. It will not open if you open the throttle. No vacuum to operate it and then it takes a while cranking g to get the fuel into the carbs.

Re: Bike will not start

Ok.Get the battery charged up.10.3 at the battery is a bit low.The bike really likes a hot battery. The ignition system doesn't fire very well if it gets low power even tho it sounds like it's cranking ok. I did notice the tach move in the video. It should start moving after a full turn of the engine....

Re: Front wheel no longer spins as freely.

Start by verfying that it is the front wheel causing the problem. Get it off the ground.Give it a healthy spin..I think it should make a couple of complete turns at least. If it's stiff.suspect the brakes...or a improper install of the front wheel.Hard to guess from here.Somebody just has to look at ...
