Re: Clutch fluid gone

It has been said that clutch fluid can leak past a bad seal in the slave cylinder into the engine. This would be very bad. I cannot verify this claim. My 88 also lost most of it's fluid due to a bad slave cylinder but the leaking fluid did exit the casing through a small drain that is formed into th...

Re: Linux

Been looking into another "Windows program" option while in Linux. It's a 64 bit system so I loaded "virtual box" in Linux...I grabbed my Windows 7 pro 64 bit and installed it. Now Linux has a virtual Windows OS running at the same time I have Linux running. No dual boot needed. Basically windows thi...

Re: slides

Taken at the question only.. I removed my air filter...stuck a small mirror on a stick in the bottom..rotated it around till I could see each slide..one at a time...Started the engine..rapped the throttle a couple times to about 4000 rpm and watched each slide bounce up and down....I did find that o...

Re: Linux

Been there did that.Stopping updates works for a while to keep windows stable but sooner or later something internet related will stop working forcing you to update again. I also have a windows program I'm fighting with on Linux 18.3. It does run on Wine on my laptop with Linux 18.3 but not on my de...

Did the headlight go out when you pushed the start button.?
It's also possible the main relay is not working well. The relays can be swapped around to find out.

Why do I prefer Linux?

Right in the middle of a hour long frequency data entry it decided to crash and update.
A hour lost..hour update...15 minutes of restart and try again.

Re: Suggestions on fixing my screwup

There are no adjustments to the cams. The crank is turned by HAND to TDC mark and each cam pulley has a mark that alignes with the casing marks. Dont get anal about a half tooth.Youll have to get right down level with the marks to see them properly. They always look off when standing up. Double check...

Re: Alternator Bolt Housing broken :(

If you glue it back on put some tape over it..It might keep you from loosing it on the road when it falls off.
Or just weld it back on.

Re: Delay going from dim to bright headlights

Easiest to check is to swap the high and low beam relays. If it follows the relay, replace it.If it's the same, remove the headlight and look for aftermarket wiring....a modulator perhaps that has failed?

Available voltage at the coils. As the rpm/load increases..so does the demand for a good spark.Poor voltage at the coils can drop one side.Measure the volts feeding the coils at 3500rpm.It really needs to stay between 13-14.2 volts. If it drops,it can be augmented with a relay bypass direct from the ...

Re: Strange electrical problem

The problem was definitely the battery. I got a new battery and installed it, and the bike has been perfect since. The old battery I had sitting on the bench. I put my meter on the battery this afternoon and measured it and it was at 0 volts. I left my meter on the battery terminals, then gave the ...

The GUI is more like windows 10 but keep in mind that Linux is open source software. Ya still have to choose what you use the computer for and pick to the operating system that supports it. Re: Linux

I am running Linux 18.3 on a laptop and mainframe with an enormous tv for the screen. I hated windows from Win95 on. Crashes in the middle of data entry a hour long. Stupid operating system. Why does it need 36million lines of code anyways. If you must have that windows only program..Linux has Wine.....

Re: Starter Question

The starter does not have a clutch in it.The starter clutch is in the engine.(Sprague clutch) The fact that the starter spins but doesn't crank the engine leads me to believe that the starter clutch isn't locking in very well. This can be improved by adding seafoam treatment to the oil and then repla...

Re: Alternator Bolt Housing broken :(

If the area is accessible and the broken part is not broken through a area that exposes a internal engine part it may be possible. I'd take several detailed pictures and go to a welder and have them look at it. If it's done on the bike, you must remove the battery and I'd hope the welder would take a...

Re: Strange electrical problem

If you measured for volts at both of the battery posts and not on the cable or connector then yes it's possible that the battery has a cracked cell link bar or end post connection. Note:A12 volt battery is just 6@ 2 volt cells attached together by a thin strip of lead. Its very rare that one of these...

Re: Strange electrical problem

If you can get it to happen again, start by putting the meter leads directly on the battery, and go from there. The meter should be set to DC. You'll see the battery voltage on the meter. Then start moving away from the battery - go to the master fuse and see if you have battery voltage on both sid...
