Re: clutch

Brake fluid does not evaporate. It leaks out.If it leaked out of the master cylinder you would see paint damage where it makes contact. Do look under the bike at the rear. There is the clutch slave cylinder. If the back/lower part has peeled paint and corrosion, your lucky. That means most of the fluid d...

Re: Starts runs and wont start again sometimes

If you can get it to not start..cycle the kill switch and see if the fuel pump cycles.

Re: Will not start

Question.Does the neutral lamp light up when in neutral?
Do you know where the "pulse coils" are located? It's connected with a 4 wire plug.

Pulse coil connection

Re: Will not start

I think I got the schematic for a Valkrie. If the bank angle sensor it tripped the engine will not crank.Thats not the problem. I'm looking at the other problems you describe to come up with a test procedure. Keep in mind..."not being nasty"....but.. It worked before you changed the frame...So I'll ...

Re: Backfire when ignition switched on

Never heard of a work around. If you have the kill switch on stop so there’s no spark There is a simple solution. Yes you need to kill the ignition power when the key is first turned on to prevent this.. One method is to get the ignition power to go on as soon as the oil pressure light goes off. Th...

Re: Dead Bike

Another very annoying question. What'd the battery voltage during cranking.Im almost positive that the computerized controlled ignition may throw up if it drops below 9.8 volts or so...Just like the 1500's do.Crank but no spark...at least on mine...I even tried it..I could still cranked the bike but ...

Re: Dead Bike

Ok something i hadnt thought of. The bank angle sensor! If its bad or stuck it could act like the kill switch and ground out the power from the coils which could explain the pulse at the green wires as those are the ground wires for the reg/rec. Any thoughts? No, it just shuts off the fuel system r...

Re: Dead Bike

The discarded wiring from the alternator conversion doesn't affect the ignition.
Sorry...I'm not near Dallas but I share your annoyance.
I still hope back to the error code.Theres just gotta be something wrong in that simple circuit. Its break time.

Re: Dead Bike

I do ....however the error code remains.
My ohm meter test is unique. Not in the manual.
Using a analog meter applies a small voltage to the coil.
When the engine cranks, the pulse coil generates a small voltage..this upsets the ohms reading..My verification it does pulse.

Re: Dead Bike

Yes and then when i hit the start button it fails to start and throws the Ns sensor code. Which again checks out good and so does the one i replaced it with. Now we're getting somewhere.Without a valid pulse from the angle sensor there will be no spark. I know.. you've been there done that.but... I...

Re: Dead Bike

All that's suppose to generate a spark is volts at the spark units(12 volts between the black/white and green) ...12 volts at the ECU(white and green)..pulses from all 3 coils. Voltage can be measured for the pulse coils at there plug.Im guessing that with the key on it would be between 0.2 and 1.5 ...

Re: Dead Bike

Lemme ask a question...
When you were testing go for volts where did you connect the meter/probe ground wire??
Please say it was at the green wire at the ignition module and not the frame or battery.
The ignition system does have a common ground lug.

Re: starter maybe

when I bumped the ignition plug by the solenoid, it popped out/quote] Not sure about this part but I'd be tempted to remove all 4 sparkplugs...put the bike in 5th gear and try to roll the engine over by the wheel. The engine may be hydrolocked. The bike does have a main 30 amp fuse under the trap d...

Re: Can beads put a tire out of balance

No.The beads will space out as needed...It's not even necessary to keep the weights that we're attached.I tossed mine in the garbage can. Didja know that your tires should be rebalanced often over it's lifespan?Just like your car..it's not a once and done thing. That's the advantage of beads. They re...

Still working the "software" issues out but so far so good.I did verify that my 1500 has the same type of mounting tabs under the left grip.My first project is to make one of those "euro light switch" housings to fit it. Re: 1985 1200 LTD Starting problem

It is a 30 amp circuit that is connected to the battery terminal of the starter solenoid and provides power to the main CFI relay and a couple of others. You mention that the engine starts and runs when the start button is pressed. I'm thinking that when the new starter solenoid was installed this ...

Re: Fork Spring Removal Tools, Atlanta, Ga

Before you thread the cap back on...Remove the spring..hand start the cap and back it out till the threads release...Put a mark on both the fork and cap..When you go to put the cap back under spring pressure you will have the proper starting point and eliminate cross threading..

Re: Buying a motorcycle

Good luck finding the "perfect condition" one. At 30 years old there's gonna be something that needs to be done...Unless it's been recently serviced and with a guarantee. Newer "date coded tires". All the fluids replaced. Shift stabilizer installed. All the electric work. Recent timing belts replace...
