Re: Will not start

Does that "reverse solenoid "click when you push the start button?
Both solenoids should click when cranking the engine.

Re: Back to a two Bike Family - Sold the 1800

Even tho I now have just the 1500...somedays I think hard about getting another "older" bike. It's all about style..The older wings..You could see the massive engine and framework that made it a bike... The 1500 seemed to cover up all the impressive stuff with plastic... My first impression when I s...

Re: Carburetor syc

You didn't "get" it...you stole it.... :P The last one I "got" cost me a grand and another $600 to get it roadworthy. If you intend to make it a great bike again expect to spend a fair amount of money and lots and lots of hours.Theres plenty of things to tend to.. Such as... Replacing all the fluids...

Re: Carburetor syc

They can be set close but carbs should always be synced to the engine as the final step along with the idle down adjustments. Bench sync is just adjusting the carb linkage so each throttle valve opens at the same time and amount. This can be seen with a light in the plenum box.I do suggest using a sh...

Re: engine died, lost 12 volts to fuel pumo

This may help...I assume that your bike continues to run when you turn off the key due to your feeding the pump with manual switched power and it's back feeding into the ignition control module keeping it alive....If you must run the bike this way for temporary use...Disconnect the harness wire unde...

Re: Electrical accessories attachment

My favorite stuff to work with... The black fuse holder is maxed out at 10 amp..It is often fused lower but uses a #18 wire size on a short run. The smaller red (mini) can have problems when it sustains above a 15 amp draw...I've had several burn contacts. Its a #14 wire. This fuse holder is actually...

Re: Bank Angle Sensor

I went on a ride today and the bike died turning a tight corner. Towed it home. The fuel pump not getting power. I used a jumper wire and pump works fine and bike will run. I remove wire and dies again. I've ordered a bank angle sensor. For $8.00. cheap fix if it works. Keep us posted please about ...

Yes from here too.
Try to get the large style fuse holder (ATO).I've had problems using the mini type above 15 amp burning a connection inside.

Re: Electrical accessories attachment

I thought the acc fuse was 5 amp.???
When needing a large power demand I suggest a #12 wire fused at the battery...use the acc terminal to operate a relay to switch this #12 wire on and off.
Use a fuse that's rated at 125% of the expected load.

Re: Replacing fork oil

I'll say no.I tried that on my 88.As I pumped it into the bottom it pressurized the fork and squirted it back out.I had to loosen the caps...then it was a mess..I dogged it off and just popped the caps out..What fun finding the one across the shop under the tool chest...I did drill and tap the caps ...

Re: 1988 gl1500

So the engine does run just no power to the fuel pump correct? Get a simple test light probe....Probe the black/white wire feeding the fuel pump relay. It should have power all the time the key is on. The "relay"is a special part...not just a plane old relay.ITS UNDER AND BEHIND THE SEAT.NOT ON TBE L...

Re: 1987 1200I

The problem with fitting another ignition system to the 1200 is the ignition advance system. The 1000 and 1100 used a combination of mechanical (1000) advance and the 1100 has both mechanical and vacuum operated mechanical advance. The 1200 timing (pulse coil position) are in a fixed position and ti...

Re: GL1100 engine removal & missing bolts

I pulled my carbs when I removed the engine. This allowed more wiggle room to get it off the driveshaft. Not saying it can't be done with just removing the airbox tho. The missing bolts..they are for vacuum syncing the carbs and must be put back.It may still run but badly. Disconnect electrical as you...

Re: Rattles and squeaks on a 96

Even my 88 use to rattle and squeak everywhere. I solved most of them with small pieces of the fuzzy side of the Velcro stuff. Remove any cover and inspect the edges closely..you will see where it rubs the other plastic...Clean it with alcohol and attach a inch long piece there. My trunk lid has 6 pi...

Re: 83 GL1100 shift mechanism blocked by plug

I've been looking for pictures..Found one..
Take a look at the position of the shift arm..In this picture it's much closer to the paw and seems to cover that plug so it can't slip out.Yours seems to be further to the left side of the bike.

Re: New member Introduction

In a restore project, finding out if the engine is ok should be first thing. Test first. My process...Remove all spark plugs..remove timing belt cover..Hand turn only the engine 2 full revs. Do not attempt to start the engine yet. Use a compression gauge and check each cylinder using the starter.Spar...
