Re: Adding driving lights to a 1984 GL1200 Aspencade

On an Aspencade, right in front of the shark gills, there is a half fake air vent . The top three little panes of this vent are closed, and the bottom two are open. There is a big phillips bolt thru the middle small panel, used to hold that section of front lower fairing to the bike. I made a L shap...

Re: Turn signal just stopped working

In Order : Fuse check ? ( rare ) Flasher dead ( even rarer ) Bad ground to flasher ( common ) FYI B wire on OEM flasher is 12 volt L wire goes to switch and "E" wire on OEM flasher goes to ground ( this green wire probably corroded somewhere ) Some people just add a second short jumper to a close av...

Re: 1984 1200a wiring

I MUCH prefer the Clymer manual : https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Clymer-Shop-Repair-Manual-Fits-Honda-GL1200A-Gold-Wing-Aspencade-1984-1987-/312044225059?hash=item48a7490223 My manual has both the Aspy and interstate colour diagrams The coloured wiring diagram matches the wire colours, and has enough space...

Re: Possible fuel issue?

My '85 aspy was doing something similar last summer: It would always start and idle perfectly, then cough and splutter at around 2000 to 3000 rpm. It still had power to pull, sorta ...and it smoothed out at higher rpm's, mostly .... After doing everything I could think of : opened gas cap, checked f...

Re: Frozen battery ( safe to re-charge )

Well I waited till the driveway was more or less clear of ice ... LOL... before driving to my battery dealer The battery came off the charger the last time at 12.98 volts, and after a day was down to 12.61.. The load test at the dealer passed, more or less, and his digital load tester said it had 23...

Re: best tire that has long life and best ride

My go to favorite tire dealer has a tiny shop on the City border . I thought the Metzler 880' s "Read good " so, over the phone , I asked him to order me one , when my front got down to the wear bars. LOL He refused !! His explanation : " I've had to replace way too many of those in last 2 years. Th...

Go to a leather jacket store and get something like Danier Defense spray : http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zCXmwMMv-Yc/UhLOWHZJuMI/AAAAAAAAAAA/fgG-lB-q1bY/s1600/untitled.PNG This is a waterproofing for hard leather jackets that leaves no surface white streaks ( Like most vortex waterproofing does ) and ma...

Re: Frozen battery ( safe to re-charge )

After 2 days of careful warming , and thawing , the voltage was 6.8 ( Ugh ) but after another 2 days of low trickle charging ( 2 amp ) It reads 13.05 this morning .. So I guess its down to the battery dealer to get it load tested .. That 13 volts might just be a surface charge . SilverDave

Frozen battery ( safe to re-charge )

My 1200 battery froze ( It was REALLY cold here !! ) .... so I moved it into basement to slowly warm up . The present voltage after warm up is now 8.1 volts . Case does not seem cracked . Is it safe to put it on a trickle charger for a day or two to try and bring it back to life ?? Or should I just ...

I have replaced several of the Trailer ( and Wing ) running lights with LED's ( Left the brake bulbs ... Incandescent " seem " brighter to me ) and added two 50 LED light bars from Harbour Freight . All the bike and trailer side running lights are quite bright LED's . and .. best yet My Back-Off mod...

Re: What Trailer can i really tow?

I have pulled a utility trailer for years with all sorts of camping gear, and I've had no stopping problems ( But I do use sintered brake pads ) . As long as the trailer is balanced front to back, and left to right , and the tongue weight is around 25 to 30 lbs ... no problems. I use a 50 lb fish sc...

Re: What is a Stator?

A stator is an older form of alternator charging device that has no parts to wear .. no brushes . Its simply a magnet , spinning inside a coil . It can produce up to 70 VAC , so needs a rectifier ( into DC ) and a regulator ( Bring it down to about 13 volts .) It has been used in outboards, plane en...

Re: 1200 SEI wiring diagram

The problem with a 30 yo machine is thats a lot of time for PO's to add stuff or modify wires . Even a good wiring diagram from the Clymer might not help Quire often you have to actually trace wires by running a fingertip along the entire wire from stop light up to the switch . When I got mine , the...

Re: Radiator cap for 86 gl1220a

Last year, I took mine down to a local rad shop, to see which of many he would recommend . The nice man in the rad shop looked at it , said " Its pretty dirty " , sprayed it with something magical , wiped all the dirt and grit off the rubber seal, slapped it onto a rad cap tester , cranked the press...

Re: Rear brake issue - '85 LTD

The top 1/8 to 1/4 in of the pistons does nothing critical . ... the small clear ring spot just above the corrosion line . You don't want to actually gouge it ... but I have found that if Hydraulic fluid pressure does not push them out .. I take a break... to think ... Then clean that top 1/4 inch ,...
