Re: 2011 Goldwing

Call me old fashioned BUT having owned and loved a GL1100 for the best part of 15 years I'm afraid that the 'wing, given all it's sophisticated technology and safety devices, is no longer a motorcycle. It is now more like a 2 wheeled automobile... Add an automatic transmission and the transformation...

Re: Parts for my 'wing.

both OEM and aftermarket. Maintainence and cosmetic. I can get filters, bearings and seals, tyres etc. here but anything like gaskets, clutch kits and the more specialised parts have to come via a Honda agent from Japan at HUGE cost with long delays. I am surprised to hear that about Saber, as I said...

Parts for my 'wing.

Hi from New Zealand, I am the proud owner of a 1982 GL1100 interstate. I have owned the ol' girl for about 15 years now and have had some wonderful times on her. The biggest bummer tho' is the fact that 99% of the parts I need to keep her maintained have to come from your part of the world. I have a...

Re: rev counter (tachometer) drive oil seal

thanks, but I have the cable out okay. It's the small oil seal and cable drive that I wish to remove from the fuel pump housing.

Cheers,

rev counter (tachometer) drive oil seal

How do I go about removing this from the housing? Mine is leaking quite badly and as I'm doing all the other seals it would be silly not to do this little one.

Re: cam and crankshaft oil seal measurements

Hi., Thanks for that. I take it that Napa is some kind of store that seals oil seals. trouble is I live in New Zealand and I had never heard of them. i have an excellent bearing, seal and drive belt shop in my neighbourhood and wanted to get all the necessary parts together before pulling and strippi...

Re: Small bike for wife?

I could say that sounds like a good swap, (but I won't) seriously, besides my "82 1100 I ride a 2006 250cc hyosung Aquila. I bought it mainly as a commuter because fuel here in New Zealand is so pricey AND it's going up again tomorrow.($1.81 per litre, about $6.50NZ per gallon, $5.00 US) So you see ...

Re: 2011 Goldwing

 I have to concur with goldtr6c. The 1500 and 1800's do nothing for me. the 'wings stopped being a "real" motorcycle after the 1200 in my opinion. that's why I'm spending a lot of time AND a reasonable amount of money giving my deep blue '82 a major mechanical and cosmetic face lift. she's like...

It's supposedly spring here but we have had nothing but rain for weeks. I have got the other bike out and ridden it twice but like you I don't ride in the rain, can't see the point. My address is as follows R.Tidman 347 Waitohu Valley Road, R.D.3, Otaki 5583, New zealand and thank you again for your...

Re: 1982 GL1100I STARTER GEAR TRAIN

Hi Stephen, The cheapest option is ok by me. Not because of the amount but merely because I am in no hurry. My question is now how do I get those funds to you? I would feel better if I paid the postage before you send the item. The price you ask for the parts will certainly be paid at some stage dow...

Re: 1982 GL1100 Interstate starter chain/clutch assy.

Well, 1 of my fellow subscribers came to my aid and has sealed a deal for a pair of those gears. This got me thinking (as you do) and to cut a long story short the engine is now almost out and at 71,000 miles it is going to get a birthday.New belts and tensioners, clutch plates, rebuild the carbs, r...

Hi Stephen,
Have measured the gears and they are identical. So you have a buyer.
Let me know your price and the cost of shipping and how you want to be paid and if it's all fair we'll start the process.
Have a good day,
Roger

Re: 1982 GL1100I STARTER GEAR TRAIN

looking good. I only have a wooden ruler at home. My vernier is at work so I'll take the wrecked ones in tomorrow (It's 6.33PM here) and I'll have a measure but it would appear they are identical. incidently, what's the internal diameter?
thanks for such a quick and accurate response

Re: 1982 GL1100I STARTER GEAR TRAIN

From New Zealand (to be sure..to be sure!!) Those gears you have should fit straight in. The starters were all the same until the 1200. I'll take a punt. can you send me a photo of them? If they look half decent I'll take 'em..... as long as the price is reasonable and the freight the same. Keep in ...

1982 GL1100I STARTER GEAR TRAIN

I neither need nor want the whole starter motor. All I need is the planetary gear system, particularly the 2 planet gears. It must be in good or better condition. It's hard owning an older wing in New Zealand. Parts are very hard to come by. Can anyone help? I am prepared to pay a fair price and shi...

Re: 1982 GL1100 Interstate starter chain/clutch assy.

hey. Thanks for that. Incidently a great website.
Is there an easy way of ascertaining that the starter clutch is ok or is it necessary to remove and strip the apppropriate parts of the engine.
