Re: fuel pump replacement

I installed an '85 Prelude pump on my '84 Aspencade.....I have put several thousand miles on the bike since without a problem. So, I know the '85 Prelude pump works.

Re: Engine seems to be locked up

Thanks for all the help with this problem. Virgilmobile was correct. # 1 cylinder was filled with gas causing a hydro-lock. Engine turns freely with plugs removed...gas shot out of # 1 cylinder. Now the problem is fixing the stuck float if that is the culprit.

Engine seems to be locked up

My '84 Aspencade with 60,000 miles has been running great...no noises...no overheating..great performance. I parked it after a ride, and the next day it would not turn over. Starter seems to engage, but the engine will not turn. The battery is fully charged and even with a booster starting unit, eng...

Old wing wins trophy

I entered my '84 Aspencade with the new yellow paint job in a local motorcycle show competing with most Harley's. I won 1st place in the antique class. I was surprised since the show was sponsored by the local Harley dealer. I guess even they know quality. :D

driving lights

My '84 Aspencade has accessory driving lights and light bar. There is only one wire going to each light. Is this wire the hot wire and if so how are the lights grounded? I can not get them to work. The bulbs test good. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for these lights. It appears the brand is Hella...

New paint

Hi everyone, I just upgraded my '84 Aspencade with a new paint job. I chose yellow because of visibility. I have had several comments since the new paint about how it looks newer than it is. Everything that is now yellow was removed and painted off the bike then reassembled. A pretty big job, but I ...

Fan switch

Where is the fan switch located on a '84 Aspencade. I want to install a toggle switch so I can control when the fan kicks in but have no idea where the OEM switch is located. Can anyone help? Thanks

Re: fuel pump replacement

Hi Bob, I am glad to anwer your questions. First, the replacement pump is larger diameter than the original and the replacement has built on brackets that line up with the original mounting holes, so the chrome strap type bracket is not necessary. The screws you see toward the engine are screws on t...

Re: 86 Aspencade Fuel Pump

Patrick, the local Autozone here had to order the Prelude pump...so I will probably order another one for a spare to carry with me on long trips...if the pump fails sometime in the future, I will have an extra with me. At $60 that would be pretty good insurance.

Re: 86 Aspencade Fuel Pump

It sure left me stranded....started and ran fine...went to a resturant to have breakfast...came out..started fine and ran until I got almost home...had to push it several blocks. By the way...I have some pictures posted of the chrome tail pipe extension I used to cover the fuel pump on an earlier po...

Re: 86 Aspencade Fuel Pump

The inlet and outlet tubes on the replacement fuel pump are a bit larger than on the original, but I replaced the fuel hoses and the new ones stretched to fit the replacement pump.

Re: 86 Aspencade Fuel Pump

If you need to replace the fuel pump you can get one from an automotive parts store that fits a 1985 Honda Prelude 4 cylinder, carburated car, for @ $60. The physical size is larger than the OEM pump, but the pressures and volume are close to the original. Also, it will bolt up using the same mounti...

cup holder

For those interested in a cup holder -- I just ordered one, a "diamond plate" brand, clamp on, chrome with a foam cup insert from Ebay for $19.99 with free shipping. I will let everyone know the quality, etc., when it arrives, but from the picture in the ad it looks really nice.

Re: fuel pump replacement

According to the info I obtained the orginal pump needed 3-5 psi. The Honda Prelude pump falls in the category..4-5 psi. I did some research on the pressure...for each one. The 4 cylinder, carburtered Prelude is the pump to use. I've had it on my GW for about 2 weeks...have driven it enough to run 2...

Re: fuel pump replacement

I read about this exchange on another GoldWing site. Some have used a universal type pump that has the same cfm and pressures, but they are about the same price @ $45-50 and would need some additional fittings for the hoses, as well as some adapting to mount, so the price would be about the same as ...

Re: fuel pump replacement

A fuel pump for a 1985 Honda Prelude will fit. I used one on my '84 Aspencade. Check the pictures and info in my previous posts. I was able to order one from AutoZone for around $60. Any auto parts store should be able to order one. The automotive pump fits the orginal motorcycle mounting holes...th...

Re: fuel pump replacement

The solid black wire on the replacement pump is the ground and connects to the green wire on the original pump. The striped wire is the hot lead and connects to the striped wire on the replacement. I used the original plug...cut the wires and spliced them and used heat shrink. The fuel hose connecto...

synthetic oil

Does anyone use sythetic oil in their GL1200's. Several local shops said don't use it because the engines and clutches were made before synthetic oil and it will not be good to use it in an old motorcycle. Just wondering if anyone uses it and has its used caused any problems. Thanks

My radio on my '84 Aspencade did the same thing just before the fuel pump went out. Since replacing the fuel pump the squeal is no longer there. I hope that is not your problem.
