Remove the timing covers then run the engine for a better look where it is leaking from.

Re: older style wet cell battery

I never said it was discharged. I just noticed the water level was low. Still started the bike just fine, it hasn't given me trouble, I'm just wondering about how long it takes for it all to become 'electrolyte' in it's strongest form, that's all. 12.01V is a discharged battery. Are you using a kno...

Re: older style wet cell battery

The 1500 loves a good battery for starting and the AGM's are about 60 CCA's more than your lead/acid.For that reason I would say use your lead/acid for your fish finder or lawn mower etc and go buy an AGM for next spring.Your starter will thank you. +1 Throw that battery into the trash. To effectiv...

Re: Odd carb issue... Slides flutter Video included

The bike actually idles at the normal 800 RPM's with some surging. Sorry the video was short, the bike was not up to operating temp at the time I made the video the "choke" was still slightly activated. I have tried to ride "like an old man" and there is just no bottom end torque, it's difficult to...

Re: Odd carb issue... Slides flutter Video included

Actually if you hold the throttle at about 3000RPM or so, the engine will die. The RPM's just being to fall until the engine stalls, but it will start back with a simple bump of the switch. Travis When it does this at 3k put your thumb over the noisy rubber hose that attaches to the bottom right fr...

Re: Odd carb issue... Slides flutter Video included

From the too short vid I gotta ask why is the engine idling at 1500RPM? Slides do oscillate when revving. As I described earlier there are three fuel circuits in the carb with slides only coming into play under heavy acceleration. Leave the airbox off and go for a ride on level ground accelerating t...

Carburetor problems are most likely( 90% probability) followed by an ignition system malfunction from the limited info provided.

On a 1500 the carbs are nearly always at fault. ;)

Re: Bike will not start

When confronted with a no start condition you need to approach the problem from a diagnostic perspective. While cranking spray some carb cleaner in the air box intake air stream under the left handle bar filler as an alternate fuel source. Then remove the right rear spark plug wire after removing di...

I unplugged it under the cover and tested the blue with the blue and the yellow with the yellow and got no reading change at all on my multimeter. I haven't pulled the cover yet I plan on doing it in a little while. It looks like a real pain in the ass though. Do I need to pull the coolant line off...

Re: Now that it's running... surge problems

Last night as I held the throttle at approximately 3000RPM the carbs began to sound like they were fluttering and the RPM's began to fall. I kept the throttle constant and the engine finally died. However if you accelerate the engine past 4000RPM it sounds and pulls like it should. Is the 3000RPM a...

Re: Strong gas smell, hard to start after sitting overnight

No doubt you have a fuel leak and the most likely leak point is at the float bowl gasket which requires extended cranking to refill the bowl with enough fuel to start. Ten to fifteen seconds of cranking sound about right in your case?

Re: Gas mileage on my 2000 wing

It is likely someone previously over-tightened the cruise actuator cable to make up for the common lag in cruise activation, check and reset according to manual. The I model is lighter in weight and what about the riders weight, big guys do not get top tier fuel mileage. Spark plugs and filters were...

Re: vacuum leak

Locate the cruise valve on left side of bike, where the red vacuum line goes down is where the green hose comes up from for the air cleaner. Hose likely was not connected at some point in time and slipped down behind the left frame rail, if need be remove the two bolts for cruise actuator below the ...

Re: One cylinder spitting and popping through the exhaust.

Without the benefit of looking over the engine to see what has been messed with the simple answer would be a carburetor sync way out of whack with the left throttle plate opened more assuming throttle was not held open during test. The simple answer looks more likely now if someone were to have att...

Re: One cylinder spitting and popping through the exhaust.

Here's the funny thing I did a compression check and found that all the cylinders on the right side have 120 and all the cylinders on the left side have 150. Any ideas why that would be? Without the benefit of looking over the engine to see what has been messed with the simple answer would be a car...

Re: One cylinder spitting and popping through the exhaust.

It is possible the exhaust valve is bent/burnt and you should do a compression test on the engine to confirm. If bent it will not be from being one gear tooth off. ;) Also confirm correct spark plug wire routing.

Re: Turn Signal Problem. . . .

Great! Moisture almost always causes oxidation of the connector pins. That, in turn, causes corrosion, high resistance, then heat that will cause the burning within the connector. If only Mother Honda had coated the connectors with dielectric grease and the owners had added a little each time the c...
