Re: Can beads put a tire out of balance
Reality is not one MC tire manufacturer recommends beads and their use will in fact void the tire warranty. They serve their purpose in OTR trucks.

Re: 2000 GL1500SE intermittent no start
I would not be in such a hurry messing around to engage starter when reverse lever is not either fully up or down as you might be getting to know how to replace reverse gears next.

Re: Little oil leak ,air assist
Yes, any fluid/oil sharing the same space with a compressed gas will want to escape with a full and sudden purge of air and no if the MC is on the centerstand with a slow or gradual drawing down of air pressure.
Then again it may have previously been overfilled.

Then again it may have previously been overfilled.

Re: Popping on deceleration
Your MC is experiencing a problem and for me to speculate why a particular component might be misbehaving at times is premature before some very simple checks are done. The 1500 is just way too complex for easy answers most of the time.

Re: Popping on deceleration
The popping on deceleration is usually caused by an excessive amount of air being pumped into the exhaust (an emission requirement thing). First off check for an exhaust system that might be starting to rot out. Next thing to check is the AIR injection system which requires air filter removal to mon...

If you end up getting around 38MPG or more highway that was the problem, if not then turning the sync screw simply cancelled out the weak running bank of cylinders.

Re: Strong gas smell on shutdown
Just got done replacing the sub filter and while it was apart you can see plain as day like WingAdmin said, the gas cap vents straight to the atmosphere. I know some said it's not normal but I can see how it is so common, the orange/red braided line from the gas cap goes straight down behind the al...

Re: '85 LTD Missing and Losing Power
Checking fuel pressure when engine is not acting up is an invalid assumption that all is well there. Ride the bike with gauge connected until it acts up for a definitive answer of fuel pump health. A heat related issue with coils would be more likely with MC stationary, going down the road provides ...

Re: 1997 GL 1500 alternator rapping noise?
Much better picture than the one I found (I think the guy got frustrated trying to get his Compu-Fire alternator in and decided the solution was to hack a chunk out of the engine). OMG  I wouldn't have that guy put air in a tire. I will throw a pic of mine in the ring showing correct install...

When replaced with Prestone or similar your coolant will be good for five years per the manufacturer. I would bet no one on the forum is changing their automobile coolant every two years.

Check the electrical connections that the #3 relay plug into likely some burning/overheating going on there and is often due to owner added electrical loads.

You get what you pay for the bargain brands have noticeably cheaper posts/lugs. This is what I have going on four years now.

I can guarantee that when new the MC did not spew gas fumes to fill a garage and it needs an inspection to determine the origin.

Re: 91 Interstate Starting System Diagram?
Parked for three years? Your carburetors are plugged. Remove top shelter and remove petcock output hose, attach another hose to catch any fuel and crank over again looking for fuel flow. If fuel flows reattach hose then spray some carb cleaner/starting fluid into intake air stream (where cardboard i...

Re: Poor Cold Start. Engine wont fire with starter engaged
A charging voltage of only 13.5V is at the bottom of barrel for a fast idle and will contribute to having a weak battery. This could be from additional lights added and when your brake lights and fans kick on will drop voltages even further. Your machine would likely benefit from a high output alter...

Re: Poor Cold Start. Engine wont fire with starter engaged
12.4V is a sign of a discharged battery and I would be checking charging system voltages as a reason.
