Re: No fuel gauge :-(

Not sure if the 7 volt regulator is on the aspy, I would think so.

Re: Compression Test Question 1981 GL1100i

Do you still have a over heating problem? At the time when the engine shows that it is over heating, Is your gas gauge also, showing a very different fuel amount? If so then the 7volt regulator has gone south, and showing hot. I replaced my engine temp switch with the Geo metro switch, still ran hot...

Re: Wierd electrical issue when starting

I do like ricks electrical parts, and his stators. But i went with the Ford 150 truck Starter solenoid, it is the most heavy duty ford solenoid for the Ford F150 truck, it was $22.00 from NAPA, or any of the local auto parts stores. The F150 solenoid i bought has a life time warranty, but,!! the bes...

Re: Plugs and plug wires

I did the Coil Mod to my 83' GL1100. That is I bought the coils and spark plug wires for a GL1500, from EBAY that included, 3 coils and 6 spark plug wires for about $25.00. I removed my resister, and wired the coils in direct. I tested the GL1500 Coils and Spark Plug Wires to make sure they were Goo...

Re: Wont' start! Was running before.

You could eliminate the fuel pump and gas tank. By running a new fuel line, from a bottle directly to the carbs just make sure it is higher than the carbs so that gravity can do it's job. Once you have ruled out fuel, getting to carb then, question is, is fuel getting from carb into engine. I agree ...

Re: Starter Clutch Replacement

Yes that would be fine, But I personally would ride it for a little longer than just 100 miles, just take it easy no full throttle while you have a flush in you motor, as seafoam or ATF is thinner than engine oil, and provides less cushion, between metals Seafoam does not lubricate and does not pene...

Re: Possible aftermarket calipers?

If i was Me, and last time i checked i was. I would Stick with Stock OEM parts as much as possible, they have lasted for 30+ years and are proven to work and last the test of time Your old ones are grooved, and ruined because the Previous owner did not do the proper maintenance and probably let the ...

Re: Possible aftermarket calipers?

I use Fleece Bay too but only as a LAST!!!! Resort. At the Salvage yard you can look at the part before you buy. I bought a rack o Carbs there for a 75' GL10 that i built for My Brother in law, the Carbs looked good on the out side, but when i pulled the Bowls off the metal was like play dough, very...

Re: Possible aftermarket calipers?

I have picked up rotors from a salvage yard that looked excellent.

I have also picked up some rotors that looked good except they had a lot of Glazing on them.

I took some 300 grit sandpaper and knocked off all the glazing and they have been working Great.

Re: Starter Clutch Replacement

Steve, I have had the same Issue with my 83' GL1100 For starters do NOT use a thicker engine oil, use 10w-40, as 20w50 is TOO thick especially for COLD weather. I use about 8-12 ounces of ATF in my engine, drain out the 8-12 ozs of oil to make room for the ATF, then put in the ATF in, make sure that...

Re: Possible aftermarket calipers?

As far as you rotors go i would look for a Motorcycle salvage yard locally. I would call them and see if they have any Goldwing's the year of your bike. Also ask how much they are $$. Then go and get the Rotor's off of one of those bike's that looks like they are in good shape, also look at the min ...

Re: Adding CBR coils to an '83

if you are looking for a hotter spark, why not do the relay mod. ? it is the first mod you should have done, it will take the load off the ignition, and direct the power where it is needed to the spark plugs without over loading your wiring and ignition parts. Re: 82 GL1100 Popping through left side exhaust.

It not a warm up issue with my bike, it does it all the time, and I only put my bike on the center stand. 1. Carbs Cleaned/rebuilt & Sync'd 2. Valves are adjusted. I may pull the vacuum advance it may have a bad diaphram. I checked vacuum on the diaphram and it does not hold a vaccum. Mine is also t...

Re: Front-end wobble - Notice to Goldwing newbies

hey loneeagle, Try a Fork Brace, If your bike does not have one, it can make a big difference. You cant really tell that the Forks are flexing. But, add a Fork Brace, I had a Oldwing, I rode it without the fork brace for two years, it had the wobble, took it out and at freeway speeds I noticed that ...

Re: Front-end wobble - Notice to Goldwing newbies

I have fixed many Goldwing wobbles, from Old to New Wings it boils down to all the same thing. 1st off when you have a 82' wing (I have a 83' GL1100, i used this on a 78' GL1000, 01' GL1800, 98' GL1500, and many more), A 82' GL1100 is near 30 years old, it does not matter the miles. The Front suspen...
