Re: No Power

Thanks ct1500. I pulled the battery and had it load tested...it's bad. Only about two years old and always on a Battery Tender. Installing a new one and she should be good to go. Thanks Mooseman and ct1500 for your responses and advice.

Re: No Power

Thanks for your reply Mooseman. I was mulling things over and thought about getting the battery in for a load test before anything else. I'll try that first. Thanks again.

No Power

I go out to take a quick ride...haven't ridden in about 3 weeks. Bike is on a battery tender. Put the key in, turn to "on". All is normal the volt meter is reading 14v. Hit the starter and "click" then dead. No lights no anything. I check the 30amp blade fuse (changed from dog bone a long time ago) ...

Re: gl1200i wont start

Same thing happened to me a couple of months ago. I had already changed out the dogbone fuse to a blade and soldered the stator plug. Fired it up one day and hit the kill switch by mistake; went to hit the starter button again and.....nothing....and I mean nothing. Found out the battery had sulfated...

Re: 86 1200I. Oil leak

There's a great tutorial with pictures on this site. Study the procedure and you should have no problems. One thing to remember, don't use an aftermarket pump and gasket. There are many out there but be sure to stick with OEM. You'll be glad you did.

Re: Hard start after oil change

Hmmmm....sounds more fuel related than oil. There 'll be other chiming in soon as well. In the interim you might start checking the easy stuff first such as your fuel filter. I'd also pull the plugs and check the color, i.e. black, light and so on.

Re: Hard start after oil change

OK...you had no problems up until now, no start or smoke problems. How long was it before these symptoms occurred after you changed your oil as it sounds like you were riding some before the problems cropped up. What color is the smoke, blue, white w/ a sweet antifreeze smell, or...?

Re: Power Loss

Update: replaced the battery and checked connections throughout. Also installed an onboard volt meter, something I had been planning to do for some time. Am running 14v at idle and at 75 mph.

Re: Power Loss

Agreed! I'd rather spend the $$$ up front and not worry about it in general than have to fool with it every couple of years....like now.

Re: Power Loss

It wasn't dry but was low. It was a "cheapo" installed by the PO about 2 1/2 - 3 years ago and I never got around to replacing it with a better battery. Will definitely volt test once the new one is installed.

Re: Power Loss

My thought exactly. Curious though that it gave zero indication of going dead...hit the kill switch then nothing. I hooked it up to the Battery Tender and it was giving me a double flashing green and yellow indication the battery has sulfated.

Re: Power Loss

Thanks Virgil. My thoughts exactly on the kill switch. Just seemed strange that when I tripped the switch the whole shootin' match quit...no lights, camera or action. But...a quick, and I mean quick, check of the 30 amp fuse showed it OK, visually anyway. I'll get into 'er starting tonight. My first...

Re: Power Loss

As far as I know she's still unconcious (with my luck I'll go home, put the key in and she'll fire right up - doesn't solve the problem though). First item is to get her up the driveway and back into the garage - neighbors are good for that :D . I'll break out the light and see what can be found. Th...

Power Loss

Got on my bike this AM (87 1200 Interstate) hit the starter button and as usual fired right up. Backed out of the garage and stopped to adjust my helmet. Reached back up and hit the "kill" switch by mistake. Flicked it back on and....nothing. No power what so ever; no idiot lights nothing. I quickly...

Re: compu-fire is great, but still have problems after insta

You state that the problems "weren't eliminated with the Compu-fire". We're you having this problem before it was installed? If so, was the original altenator output tested before it was changed out?

Re: 1985 limited edition honda goldwing 1200

If you're battery is running down while parked you've got a "leak" somewhere. Is it running down overnight or after a long period of time (weeks)? Are you using a battery tender?

OD/Neutral lights

My OD and neutral lights stopped working a couple of months ago (87 1200 Interstate). I suspect it's the change switch located on the inside transimission cover. I wanted to wait until "winter maintenance" to get in there to fix it as it doesn't affect the operation of the bike overall. But............
