Comstars were introduced in 1978. Modifications are required to fit them on a 1975 to 1977 wing. Check the Vin as my guess is that the bike is not a 1975.

The power to the headlight comes from the ignition, then to the nest on the left side, then connect to wire up to the starter switch on the right bar (to turn off during the cranking time), back to the left side nest, then connect to wire up the the left bar and the high low beam switch, back to the...

1977 was the last year. A 1978 engine block was new that year and the kick starter was gone. It can be added back in by usage of the 1977 cover.

Glad to see you have a solution. Don't forget the indicator lights, 1 smd led work great in the cluster, they are much brighter and lower current too. Have not changed out my headlight yet but good options are getting available for a led too.

Your flasher may need more curent draw to flash. Solid on this the indicator of a bulb out. Low current is that trigger. I run incandescent in the rear blinkers to avoid this issue. Since the rear blinkers are not running lights, no real power is saved by having them led.

I used a regulator from a 2006 CBR600rr on my 1977 and it worked very well. Even the wire count was identical.

They are not easy to turn over using the kick starter lever if tight from sitting. The bolt on the stator or under the belt cover might be an alternative.

I had my Dyna S hooked up to the ignition for power and I got a miss when the blinker was on. Just enough voltage drop to throw it off. I got the Dyna clean power from the battery using a relay and solved the issue. So clean 12v power is important, 11.5 volts may not work.

You are correct, only the dyna III is old, the dyna s is newer and should be under warranty so dyna should help you out. With the dyna ignition and the Dyna Coils there is no need for the ballast resister hence it was removed. The dyna 3 is an older mid 1980's unit and may fail soon. Had to replace mine two years back due to dropping a two cylinders when it heated up. Hope you get her back on the road soon.

A kit is available to move to the Hydraulic lever version but pretty sure the 1200 also had a cable clutch on early versions but I do not know that for sure. I plan to install the Hydraulic version sometime soon in my 1977.

Oil is a big deal for wet clutch use. If you are using a motorcycle specific oil or a Rotella or similar oil known to work well in motorcycle clutch use, then perhaps it is getting worn out. You may consider taller rear shocks from the cb750 to reset the frame to near stock geometry with the 16 inch Lester rear wheel. Bet progressive can update your shocks.

certainly consider an issue with the reserve lighting unit. They have been responsible for quite a few issues.

You are correct on the cam cov rate and hotter cams. Better carbs on the early years also as the GL1000 began as a sports bike and later a touring bike. I know little of the difference if any for the heads.

That one looks like a vintage rack an looks like it would inable to keep the blinkers. I have now adopted a great set of Hondaline Saddlebags so I moved to a 1978 fender, and taillight blinker setup.

89K miles is not bad on the rings, many users have gotten them to go over 200K.

I would get it running well before considering restoration to 75 status. In the states, the 75 goes for more than later years but not by more than $500 most of the time. Of course buying for $50 means the same condition for a 1977 would be -$450 LOL. Plenty of parts available to get her running.
