Re: dyna coils with points

Only with Dyna Coils and Dyna Ignition can the ballast resistor be bypassed. With just Dyna Coils or just Dyna Ignition, the ballast resistor needs to stay to protect the circuit for long life. It would work for a short while that way, but you better have a friend on call. You can open the plug gap ...

Re: What to look for when buying

Typo issue for sure. I meant saving the original paint. Once you repaint, the original paint is gone never to return. Many make the repaint mistake and then search for OEM painted panels to get her back to a vintage look. Aged paint can look great in a show.

Re: What to look for when buying

You never want to use that, but it essential for a OEM condition. B Glad it was not lost. The fairing/windshield it came with must have not restricted the side cover opening up. You will love this bike. The process I recommend is to change the belts, fix the brakes, then reassemble the carbs and sta...

Re: What to look for when buying

But of course. Kinda proves the bike was always without a fairing. When you have a fairing they cannot flop down, so the user removes the bottom hinge and cable stops and just removes them for service. But for those of us without a fairing, the hinge and cable is perfect for easy electrical and fuse...

There are not many numbers. My 432 and 436 are two of the 6 or so. Are they really Yale 14 blanks?

Agree that this sounds like a ground issue. Try giving the circuit a known good ground close to the last connection, then move back if that corrects the issue.

money ahead by changing out the trailer bulbs (only the bulbs) to LED. That way no additional stator loading either and the stock flasher works.

Glad you are saving a nice ride. Consider saci G that paint, as once they loose their patina it takes many years to get it back.

Re: What to look for when buying

Looks like the rear grab rail is there, they are hard to find. They can crack near the blinker mount so check on that. Sulfer yellow is a popular color these days, a bit rare as back in the day that color did not sell well and dealers repainted them before the sale. Looks to be in reasonably good sh...

Let us s know if it fits. On an early wing it often rubs the forks with some brands of 110 19 inch tires.

Re: Need Rectifier & Wiring Harness

Better to buy something newer than 40 years old. I replaced mine with a 2006 CBR600rr unit and it had exactly the same wires. Much better performance as it is Mosfet and not a grounded unit.

There is a screw on the right side to adjust idle speed. It does not need a tool, as on mine I can turn it by hand,.

14.6 at 1100 rpm seems good, and 15 at 3000 just a touch high. The output will drop off when the Stator is hot. So best to check it after a long ride.

Re: 1978 gl1000 ignition switch+ speedo replacement

Emco makes a replacement but that changes the key. There may be a way to change the key cylinder, but I just removed the plastic lower from the old switch and replaced it with the Emco plastic part. You have to use epoxy to hold it back together as the new Emco plastic teeth may not work with the ol...

Over $100 if I recall. Not urgent but you may need one before the end of the season. Usually it will drop to two cylinder mode when hot as it ages further.

Re: Wont Start... Bad Dyna III Electronic Ignition Box?

Correct me if I am wrong, but seems to me the dyna 3 in the picture is of 1980 vintage. My guess is that it has aged and it is time to replace with a newer Dyan S.

Re: Comstars wheels in 1975

Comstars were introduced in 1978. Modifications are required to fit them on a 1975 to 1977 wing. Check the Vin as my guess is that the bike is not a 1975.

1977 was the last year. A 1978 engine block was new that year and the kick starter was gone. It can be added back in by usage of the 1977 cover.
