Re: NO START solenoid clicks but no turnover. whats wrong?

The solenoid is a heavy duty switch to activate the start motor. If you can make the starter turn over by direct connection to a battery, you have eliminated it as the cause of the problem. Work back from there and ensure the connections to the solenoid are clean. The solenoid may be internally corr...

Re: please help me

“I like using the starter switch headlamp function to signal other drivers. Pressing it while riding blinks the headlamp off with each press. “

Now that’s clever. Why did I not think of that?

Thanks for the tip.

Re: 1982 GL1100 - is it worth getting it rideable?

Best of luck wrestling with nostalgia. Firstly, no matter how much love, time and money you put in, it won’t be worth much. In fact it will be worth exactly what a buyer is willing to pay. Market value discounts emotion and dreams , usually to zero. If you really wanted to pay homage to the idea, fi...

Re: New to board

Welcome. I also removed the Vetter front from an 83. Leave the rear bags and frame. They will come in handy. With bags removed it looks near normal. The 81 has a relatively high rpm in topgear as it was built for the 55 mph speed limits. The sweet spot is near 60 mph. The most likely problems you ma...

Re: Needing opinions on engine issues

There are several posts on setting the new belts.

Mark the cogs and belts and count teeth as a back up.

Typically the starboard side moves during installation. It still runs poorly if that happens. Dont ask how I know.

Re: High speed wobble

Wingit Unless there is more going on you should not have adversely affected the trail. The rear wheel is smaller and the front is taller (and wider) . This effectively tips the bike, (back down and the front up). It also makes the bike foot print slightly longer. Picture the steering bearing axis ex...

Re: High speed wobble

wingit If trail is decreased by fork height or rake change there is better turn in and more likely a handle bar whobble. (Like the front wheel caster on a shopping cart.) A tank slapper is the most common presentation. The opposite is true as well. The resonant frequency is adjusted with a steering ...

Wingit

Some idle thoughts

Has the trail changed?

Is the whobble in the handle bars with the frame stable or is the frame involved?

You addressed the swing arm. If you stiffen the rear shock, does the resonance disappear?

Re: please help me

Welcome to goldwing county. If everything lights up but it wont turn over this will be easy. Find the starter solenoid. Does it click? If not why not. Is it the handle bar starter switch? If yes, either the solenoid is rusty or the starter is kaput. Jump the solenoid and, in neutral, ignite the star...

Camsell recognized no one, yet it clearly was wrong. The sky colour was tinged orange and the ground was dusty and hard to remove from your skin. It felt sharp, not like sand, sharp like pepper.

Concur. The functional upgrade is expected to be the suspension. If it is not, they will be in the used market in two years. My colleagues still swear by their GL1500 and did not move up to the previous generation 1800. Lets see if they now move up and pay for the ride. Some will be forced to upgrad...

Re: milky colored oil

Maybe you are right.

With the spark plugs out (no compression resistance) does it catch and spin normally, at least occasionally? Then it's the sprague clutch.

Sounds like the sprague clutch has corroded.

The R&R for this is $2,000. There are some short cuts others have posted. You might want to try this.
