Re: centerstand

The small footpad used to lower the centerstand provides no force or assistance in levering the bike onto the centerstand. It is there to hold the stand still while the bike is pivoted up. It's all about the technique. Sorta like judo - use the opponents weight against it. Get the bike moving backwa...

Re: OMG Make it Stop!

Sorry about that everyone. No, we weren't "hacked." It was a single user, logged in from Russia, who signed up as a new user yesterday, and started posting hundreds of spam messages. Of course, I happened to be away, and got home after a 5 1/2 hour ride last night at 1 am, so I did not check the si...

Re: Helmet headset for radio

There are several manufacturers of wired headsets (J&M, Edsets, etc.). All Hondas use the same five pin connector. Harleys have a different connector so you need a Honda specific cable. Headset allows hearing bike audio output (music, GPS, CB if so equipped) and speak with your passenger over the in...

L.L. Bean Gore-Tex packable (folds back into its own zipper pocket).

BTW. I had a pair of Olympia gloves that ripped apart after two months. Not impressed. Firstgear has always done well for me.

Re: Owner's Manual(s) for Older GoldWings

Honda uses Helm to distribute manuals. Yours is apparently on backorder but I would get on the list. http://www.helminc.com/helm/Result.asp?Style=helm&Mfg=AHC&Make=AHC&Model=GL05&Year=2008&Category=2&Keyword=&Module=&selected%5Fmedia= In addition to EBay I would suggest a wanted ad on several Goldwi...

Re: MotoBatt MBTX20U Motorcycle Battery for GL1800

Sorry for duplicating this post, but I could not find the first posting of it. In March 2017, I bought this battery for my 2009 GL1800. It was the first replacement battery for this bike which was purchased brand new in October 2010, but the battery was original as of manufacture date in 2009. The ...

Re: My baby won't crank.

Probably should post on Tech Talk board. Besides the dreaded three yellow wires, the GL1200 is known for starter drag. Not the same bike I know but I've had a couple 1200 bikes that really did not like to turn over and were cured by disassembling and cleaning the starter. No need for a complete rebu...

The GL1500 Valkyrie Interstate also had a jack to plug in an external audio source, similar to the GL1500 Goldwing Interstate.

Re: GL1200 darkside question

While I never got to the point of darkside on my 1200 and can not offer real results as you requested, I did some research as you have. The difference in bead diameter on the 15" CT vs the 15" MT is only a few millimeters but has caused some folks trouble getting the bead to set. There are a few sto...

Re: 1994 Honda Goldwing Intercom, how to use

No intercom function thru speakers. You will need two helmet mounted headsets and cables. There should be a connector near the left front dash glovebox and another for the passenger. Once you're all hooked up, turn on the radio, keep volume low for now. Turn IC VOL up to the mid-point and make adjus...

Re: regarding leds, trunk lights, brake flasher...

First welcome to the greatest web reference for Goldwings. I have a 2015 and have started the process of upgrading lights. While it “may” work, changing directional bulbs should include changing the flasher unit. On the GL1800 this involves a fair amount of disassembly. There are instructions and vi...

Re: MotoBatt MBTX20U Review

Back to my OP. My MottBatt is marked "MB050313" which I assumed meant manufactured in 2013. I purchased it 11/14/13 from Ed's Batteries in Westbrook, ME. It came with no documentation whatsoever and I received verbal instructions that it was fully charged and ready to go. There was no initialization...

Harvey Thanks for the note. I will be going to Yuasa for future batteries - as I stated above that was my original plan but in a weak moment I let the salesman talk into something else. As far as the MotoBatt goes, first winter I would start and run at least once a month. This winter, since the bike...

I mounted mine just below the right fairing pocket with hook & loop tape. I have always pulled it off and put it in the pocket when there was a risk of getting wet. Maybe three years old and the voltmeter started going nuts. All over the place. Hooked up my toolbox voltmeter and a solid 14.4. Kept t...

Re: MotoBatt MBTX20U Review

Real life review: VERY VERY UNHAPPY! So I wanted to upgrade to the AGM and I went to a local battery specialty store to buy a Yuasa. They talked me into the MottBatt as it was a few dollars less and had a two year warranty. Well I went to fire up the Goldwing this spring and she wouldn't go. I tried...
