Re: 81 GL1100 oil pooling on top of engine

I get pools of oil in the same place on my bike and sometimes the location of the pools can seem random. I only get a drop or two of oil in each pool. On my bike the leak source is from between the carbs and the plenum box that all four carbs connect to, and also between the two halves of the plenum...

Searching for soarce of stains

I haven't ruled out the carbs yet but Some sort of liquid gets on top of my engine and leaves rusty orange stains. It might be coolant, it seems to leave an oily film where it had pooled after it has evaporated. I never see it dripping, all I ever see is traces when I come back to the bike after it ...

Re: How to refinish aluminum covers

I used duplicolor clear high temp engine enamel. I have used it for a couple of years and have not had any problems with color change, chips or peeling. Try it, I like it. If you find you don't like it for some reason stripper will take it off in a matter of minutes. I used plastikote classic laquer...

How to refinish aluminum covers

I paid $9.00 for a set of belt covers and $14.00 for a set of valve covers. They were in bad shape. SAM_1240.JPG First thing to do is to clean the parts inside and out with mineral spirits , a paint brush will help clean. Next remove any clearcoat and the paint around the logo with spray auto stripp...

Brake part search.

I am in need of some of the small rubber bellows - like dust boots for my brake caliper sliders on my GL1100. I could use a half dozen or so but I dont need entire caliper rebuild kits. Anyone know of a source ? I am sure Honda could hook me up but I bet they want a lot for a couple of tiny parts. L...

Re: Easy Idle mixture screw mod.

Sorry drew I dont know the reccomended setting for an 83. The info I used stated the 82 was set at 1.5 turns out but for some reason it said for 82 only. I am sure the spec. is in the Honda service manual but unfortunatly my copy was deleted and I am looking now for a source. It seems Honda has been...

Easy Idle mixture screw mod.

I just wanted to do a air bleed / Idle mixture adjustment on all my carbs. I have an 82 standard GL1100.Try as I might with this tool and that one all I could get done was to put a blister on the back of my hand. Those little dudes are hard to get to. I had to pull the carbs to replace my accelerato...
