Re: Show Chrome GL1500 Heated Grips

("You could definitely have an analog potentiometer control the duty cycle of an oscillator (say a 555 timer) which would then trigger a MOSFET. That would give you infinite control. That's how I would design it, anyway.") I found a fellow that said he could design with a potentiometer.....Just have...

Re: Show Chrome GL1500 Heated Grips

Fixing the Controller. I bypassed the switch on the controller of my ShowChrome heated grips. I still like having them on cool days, and the bypassed switch has not let me down yet. The controller is easy to open up and just bypass the built in push button switch. WP_20170107_003.jpg -andy I opened...

Re: Show Chrome GL1500 Heated Grips

Those are the controllers we're complaining about...the ones that don't work, and the only ones Show Chrome sell now. Unfortunately. Show Chrome did try to help! In all, the sent me 2 sets of replacement grips, and 3 replacement controllers, while trying to fix the problem. In the end, though, it a...

Is this fix just "on and off" or can you adjust the temperature?

Re: Show Chrome GL1500 Heated Grips

The Heat-Troller looks similar to a Gerbing Jacket heat controller which would be great, however I do not have any schematics for the Show Chrome Control. If someone has this, I would give it a try.

Re: Show Chrome GL1500 Heated Grips

Is there a replacement controller out there?? Or a way to alter the way these Show Chrome units work? I was hoping I would not have to throw them in the trash can.

Re: Show Chrome GL1500 Heated Grips

Just a brief update - I tried running each grip for a few minutes, bypassing the controller. They did get very hot, as they should. Connected to the controller, though, they stayed stone cold, even after 1/2 hour. I then re-wired the system. It now operates directly off the bike's AGM battery via a...

Re: Fuse blow out Update

So as I said before, finding the blown fuse problem was easy. Adding the alternating signal light kit has proved to be a disaster. After looking and looking, I am probably going to have to replace my sub harness up the right side of the front fairing. This hooks up to the side clearance lights, sign...

Re: Fuse blow out

I got some time today to trace my footsteps and check on this fuse blow out. I found that I had not connected the radio ground back up and it must have been touching somewhere to cause the fuse blow out. That's the good news. :D So having lots of fairing parts off, I decided to add the alternating w...

Re: Fuse blow out

Further to this....when I installed the front wiring for the side light so it would alternate with the front signal light, it worked fine. After discovering the blow fuse, I noticed that the side clearance light was not alternating with the front signal light, but rather blinking at the same time. ?...

Fuse blow out

So, working on the front end of my 1500 today fixing a couple of cracks and installing some LED lights on the clearance and signal to the front end. I was constantly turning the key on and off to check the lights and signals when I noticed that I had no headlight. I could get the signal to work, rad...

Winter Project

Starting to think about a winter project while it continues to pour rain here in Central Alberta. I know I have seen, but am unable to find some pictures on a trailer hitch storage unit. I have some extra side and rear storage items from a wreck that I purchased. I thought that I could put these on ...

Fuel Tank Key change

I think this has been posted before somewhere, but I could not find it. I decided to try and post a couple of pictures to show what I did. A while back I was filling my bike with fuel and I had left my key in the lock. Well, due to being in too big of hurray I broke the key off in the fuel tank lid ...

Re: Mirror Change on GL1500

This might be a winter project for me. I have another set off of a wrecked 1992 that I can use to experiment. I was hoping there was a play by play like some of the other repairs done on this site.

Mirror Change on GL1500

I need to change out just the mirror glass on a GL1500. Thought if I can find directions on how to get it apart that I might add a Muth signal light also. Does anyone have instructions on how the mirrors come apart?

Audio Headset Plug in

I am wondering if anyone knows of a headset plug in for the bike side that mounts permanently? I have the loose cord that sit into the holder, but it pops out sometimes and then my connection starts to pull apart. One of the few things I noticed on a late model Harley was that the plug in for the he...

LED add on question

I am looking to add both LED bulbs and LED strip lights to my 1990 GW Aspencade. I have read up on many articles and am still confused. Do I need to use a load Resistor for each set of lights? (eg. left saddlebag and right saddlebag.) Does this include installing a resistor for brake lights or dayti...
