I just got my second GoldWing

Hello everyone, I just picked up my second GoldWing. It is a 1982 GL1100A (I will post pictures soon). That is where the confusion comes in.... The VIN is for an 82 but it has the digital gauges and the 83 wheels. The compressor controls are located just below the digital gauges and next to the igni...

Re: Making your own side covers

Making a form is not that hard and not that expensive if you have one set of covers to make the form from. Plaster of Paris reinforced with fiberglass fibers works well and is heat resistant. Take a deep pan or box and mix your plaster and fiberglass and fill the pan or box about 2/3rds to 4/5ths fu...

Re: gl1000 ignition key

I just picked up an 82 that had no keys. I took the false tank lock to a honda dealer and when he cut the keys from the number on the lock they did not work. I then took the lock and one of the saddlebag locks to a locksmith and he made keys for me that do work my key number is 209 (last three digit...

Re: WTB: Randakk's GL1100 Carb rebuild manual

Rick,

Where in NE MD are you? I am right near the Philadelphia Airport and I have the manual that you can borrow. I just ordered a new kit to rebuild the spare set of carbs I will need to get it back for my rebuild.

Where did you find the $20 parts? It could be the difference in getting good original Honda parts and cheap Chinese copies.

Ok, it's been a while since i posted but i have been keeping up on my reading. A lot has changed since I last posted here. Winter is over. As far as oil goes, I have never had damage due to oil (lack there of is another story). Ju...

Re: new member--new bike

If you look back at the history of the bikes that are having problems you will usually see that the bike was recently purchased and had not been run for a few years (20 years in my case). That causes a lot of things to gunk up and it takes a while to clean it back up and get it running correctly aga...

Re: stops running

Well that does sound like a fuel supply issue. Before buying a new fuel pump i would check to see if the vent hole in the gas cap is plugged. next time it quits open the gas cap to see if there is a vacume build up. if there is just try to leave the cap loose for a little while and drive down the ro...

Re: If it ain't broke do I fix it?

Replace the timing belts. If they are older than 6 years or you do not know when they were changed last. The last thing you want to do is get the motor running again and have a belt fail. There is no way to tell the condition of the belts by looking at them. it is a cheap repair that will save you a...

Re: Pull Behind Trailers

It would be easy to build you can pick up a Harbor Freight 4x4 trailer for a couple hundred dollars and mount a cartop carrier on it. paint the cartop carrier and trailer to match your bike and you are ready to go after registration. In PA i just go to the local quick tag shop and give them the info...

Valve adjustment is probably a good idea along with syncing the carbs. I usually check the valves when i do an oil change just to make sure they are still adjusted correctly.
