Re: My first bike

1981 Suzuki Tempter w393qmH.jpg I hoped that pic posted. I was stationed in Ogden Utah. I wanted a bike to ride, but never rode one before (this was 1984). I bought the bike, made the dealer throw in a helmet for free. I got the bike on the rode, and asked the dealer, "How the hell does one shift th...

Re: HALP! My bike won't start...WAT DO??

You will need to verify electrically that the kill switch is good. The '89 will turn over "like a bat out of hell" when the kill switch is not in run mode or the switch is otherwise not operating correctly. How do I need to verify that the kill switch is good? can I hotwire the switch? Gonna check ...

Check the reverse lever and the kill switch, make sure the battery connections are tight
The engine turns over like a bat out of hell.

Kill switch is good. I didn't accidentally turn the kil switch to "OFF". Everything is good.

HALP! My bike won't start...WAT DO??

I pulled my bike into the garage, put it on the lift, and proceeded to change the front tire. At that point, the bike ran. 1 month later, when I finally had time to finish the job, I tried to start the bike, and it won't start. I swapped the ignition relay with a known good relay (horn), and it stil...

Although, I love virginmobile's nice instructions, I would pull the carbs, just to make it easier, and in your face. That's just my moronic opinion.

Re: 1500 vs 1200

IMHO I've had 2 1200's and an 89 1500 and as much as I loved the 1200's when I had them I would take the 6 cylinder Wing over the 4 cylinder all day long for my type of riding(98% 2-up).The 1500 ride is far better also and although I'm not a big guy there is more room on the 1500. Just after readin...

Re: 88 gl1500 off idle hesitation theory

[quote="virgilmobile"]I noticed in driving that if I hold in 1st gear and run for a few minutes around a parking lot at 1100 rpm then try to accelerate it will buck on me.Same thing if I idle up slow to a light, using no throttle movement. The strange part is that I can go through a couple of gears,r...

Re: GL1500 Transmission Test

I don't know that it makes any difference at all. When I got my bike, it had the heel toe shifter on it and it was a natural place to rest my foot. I wondered if the previous owners had used it as a foot rest as much as I did and if the light pressure on the toe could have been wearing that shiftin...

I usually end up at Batteries Plus, and purchase one of their AGM batteries. After buying one of these for each of my bikes, I've never had to buy another battery before I sold the bike. http://www.batteriesplus.com/product/32754-XTAX24HL--BS-Xtreme-Permaseal-AGM-Battery/558-CC/4419-Motorcycle-Batte...

Re: Put on the new tire today

Since I do all my own work, tire changes too, adding the beads was the easy way for me. I dont have a spin balancer and dont like having to take them somewhere to be balancedit works out great for me. It cost about $20 to have tires balanced and I cant afford that every 6 months or so. I agree mach...

Re: Need Help 1991 gl1500 no gas from fuel pump

No owning a 1500, I have no experience with the fuel system, however, I have read where in some cases the fuel tank becomes more or less vapor locked (under negative pressure) and the pump CAN have difficulty moving fuel if that is the case. I would definitely check the items dingdong mentioned. Fu...

Re: Need Help 1991 gl1500 no gas from fuel pump

Well fellas here is an update. Tested all electrical components . . . all seem fine. Put voltmeter to leads on fuel pump. Getting 11.2+ volts to fuel pump . . . still not a peep. Leads me to believe the fuel pump is bad. $360 out the window. Is there any way to get this supposed dead pump working? ...

Still looking for the thread pitch etc, of the 19mm nut that goes on the threaded rod that goes thru the botton of the bike for the crash bars. The nut got lost at some point. $0.53 at BikeBandit, so probably affordable at your local dealer. Pull the bolt in the parking lot of your local mom and po...
