Re: Austone Taxi Tire 175R16 help !

I have about 2k miles on mine, and i am running an Avon rear tire on the front. First thing I notice is that the Austone is definitely taller and this is compounded by the fact that I have to keep my suspension air pressure a little higher than I used to or else I get a little scrubbing on the inner...

Re: REAR SPEAKERS

If you have a round silver knob near the ignition switch, this is most likely a fader knob. This can get water in it from washing with high pressure and cause it not to work properly, but usually this results in some static and reduced volume and will work again after it dries out unless one of the ...

I'm not sure about 91. My '94 Aspy has lights in the bags, and CB, but no cornering lights.

Re: I'm back and already some questions

As already said, the bags on the Aspencade should have lights and not just reflectors. These are prone to the wiring getting damaged if care is not taken to keep it tied back and installed properly. The "ring of fire" on the front is more than likely a "strip or tube" of incandescent bulbs. The wiri...

Re: Alternator question

I would take that compufire to a shop to have it repaired and keep it handy. Many of the stock alternators made after 1995 are prone to failure of the rotor windings, which is not easily repaired and very few places can do it. Chances are good that the "OEM" unit that the shop is installing may be o...

Re: 1989 GL1500: Dunlop Elite 4 OR Bridgestone Exedra

I cannot remember for certain if it was Michelin M89X or Pilot radial that I bought online. I don't think either one is available any longer for the rear other than maybe some New-Old Stock on somebody's shelf. I also have not tried Continental yet, but after talking with Harley friends who run them...

Re: Blower Fuse Part Two ( Help )

Sounds like you might have pinched wire that is only shorted when there is someone on the bike. I would look under the seat and inspect the connectors there for any damage. I would also look a little closer at the turn signal canceling device since you might not see any problem with this while sitti...

Re: 1989 GL1500: Dunlop Elite 4 OR Bridgestone Exedra

Maybe I just got a bad pick, but I tried the Bridgestone a few years ago and they didn't last long. Best I can remember I got about 10k on the front and less than that on the rear. I went through a period where I tried some different tires to see for myself and here's the gist of what I've decided f...

Re: Alternator Indicator

Most likely the brushes are sticking, vibration or bump in the road can make them temporarily start working again, but pretty soon they will stay stuck and your light will stay on. Sorry, don't mean to sound pessimistic, but experience tells me this is probably the case. 8-)

There are two problem prone vacuum lines that are under the carbs. These haven't failed yet on mine, but If you are gonna tear into it, make sure you check these.

Re: Just got my first Goldwing

To my knowledge, 10% ethanol is the maximum allowed in fuel at the moment unless it is E-85, which I would not use. I have not seen any fuel with methanol, but it may exist in places I'm not aware of.

Re: Just got my first Goldwing

I have run 87 on several occasions with no problems, and this was with ethanol. I would try to avoid the ethanol whenever possible, especially if the bike is going to sit for any length of time because the ethanol is not kind to some of the internal seals in the fuel system. But as far as the mechan...

Re: Odometer reset button

You don't have to pull the whole front end off! 8-) But you do need to pull the mirrors, the windshield, and the dash panel in order to get to the screws to remove the instrument panel glass. 8-) I reset mine every time I fill up with fuel and it does get stuck once in a while. When it does, I just t...

Re: wobble at the front

I have experienced wobble on few occasions, and on a couple of those occasions is was actually the rear wheel that was causing the problem. Problems with the rear wheel can cause the handlebars to shake and cause the front end to "wobble" in reaction to what is going on in the back. While you have t...

I like your enthusiasm! 8-) Make sure you do the testing I mention in the article to make sure you do in fact have a bad rotor. If you are not a mechanic of some sort or don't do this sort of thing on a regular basis, there are a couple tricky parts to the repair process. One of them is removing the...

Re: GL 1500 Alternator

If you are buying those cheap (under $75) OEM Hitachi alternators on E-bay, you are going to keep having the same problem. To make a long story short, around 1995 Hitachi moved production of these alternators to China. On the Chinese produced models, the rotor windings have a weak spot. In my experi...

Re: Clacking noise.

Well, I don't want to quibble over semantics, but "thinner" is not a very relevant term when it comes to oil. It may be that some 30w synthetic oil may have a lower viscosity than a standard 30w oil at room temperature, but this does not necessarily make it better or worse. What is important is the ...

Re: Battery Question

Is it an AGM type battery? Either way, the problem would be the other way around. The battery is not going to hurt the charging system. If the battery is an older wet cell, lead acid type, then this battery can be damaged if you use other than an OEM 40amp alternator. If it is an AGM type sealed bat...

Re: Brake question

Don't hold me to the percentages, but the pressure is proportioned between front and rear. I believe around 30% to the front, but don't hold me to that number. Weight transfer is managed to some degree by the anti-dive pistons in the front brakes, but other than that, I don't believe there is any au...

Re: Need your opinions, brake issue

Haven't had this problem on my Wing, but on another bike that I helped a friend with, I had to loosen the brake line to bleed it completely. There was air trapped in the line that would not come out the bleeder valve for some reason.
