Reverse gear does not work

I have had trouble since I bought my 1500 with the reverse gear not staying engaged. I pull up the handle and it feels like it goes in and then nothing when I hit the reverse button. Just a little noise. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you. I think my machine may have started on the west cost and slowly made it to the east coast, because there are several hoses plugged with y-s leading to nowhere and the bracket for the canister below the alternator. evaporative canister

I am trying to find the location of the evaporative canister on a 1996 SE. I note a hose coming from the gas cap, down by the alternator. Just rebuilt the alternator and just find a hose leading from the gas cap down to drain on ground. Diagrams show a canister. Wonder where it would be located, and...
