Re: What does every one do for a living?

For the past 22 years I have worked as a Prison Officer for the Scottish Prison Service in Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland. For the past 5 years I have been responsible for the early release from prison on electronic tags of low security prisoners. Take it right from application through vario...

Re: Replacing brake lights.

I know where your coming from Mikeb but I had a hell of a job changing the bulbs on mine and had to remove the lamps to get them done. If you have small fingers then you stand a chance of changing the bulbs with the lamps in situ but as I said, I had to take mine out. I assumed that k3nn3y3 had alre...

Re: Replacing brake lights.

From memory there is a foam strip round the lamps and that is compressed when you tighten the lamps up. This is probably what is holding the lamp in as it will have partially bonded to the casing of the bike. It will move eventually. Just be careful as you don't want to break the bolts in the lamp b...

Re: Replacing brake lights.

If this has been on for many years it will be tight to come off. When I had my 1500 and tried to remove the lamps they were extremely tight. Once loose you will find there is not a lot of wire in behind for you to manouver the lamp about to fit a new bulb. Keep at it m8 and you will get there. Somet...

Re: sticky switches push them in can't get them to come out

Ok guys, How about just the opposite problem, my hazard switch will not stay in the on position. I have tried the electronic spray but it still does not stay on. How hard and what do you have to do to get to the switch. I have a 03, and have had it for about a year now, first problem! If you take o...

Re: Screw up Stories

My f*ckup goes way back to the dark ages when i was 18 and on my first round of biking. i was driving a Kawasaky Z400 twin and used to have a bad habit of pulling up at the house and without putting my feet down onto the ground, would just catch the side stand and put it downand then lean the bike o...

Re: sticky switches push them in can't get them to come out

I had this exact same problem. i took the panel out and removed the switch. i sprayed it liberally with electrical contact cleaner and this freed it of and would work well. i than lubicated the switch using WD40 and let it dry out a bit before I put it back together. Works fine now. Also had this pr...

Re: Favorite Chrome Polish??

I use Solvol Autosol if it is chromed metal I'm cleaning. Wouldn't dream of using it on chromed plastics though as the coating on them is very thin so use Pledge instead

We can do a lot better than that way up here in the north of Scotland m8 and you don't want any of that crap they call real ale, it tastes like gnats pee. Re: End of the year

Bought myself an '87 CBR600F to use while the wing is off the road for the winter and only managed one short jaunt to work on it so far. the roads round here are treacherous with black ice everywhere. The snow is shifting but each time it starts to thaw, it goes back to freezing temperatures overnig...

Re: End of the year

The bike got taken off the road a few days ago. We have had a really cold snap. The whole of Scotland has been hit by heavy snow falls and bitter cold. Currently sitting at -12Deg C here just now and about 6-7 inches of snow outside. The tax on the bike was due for renewal at the end of this month a...

Re: Where to mount GPS

I use the tomtom suction mount but drilled a small hole through the centre of it. Then dismantled the dash and continued the hole down through that and used a small short bolt with a nyloc nut to secure it to the top of the dash right in front of me. I tried sticking it to the screen before that but...

Re: Help, Please

I just replaced the batery on my 02 1800. It had a new battery fitted around December last year but this past couple of weeks has been causing me all sorts of problems. Not starting being the mian problem but the clock losing time as well. I would charge the batery with an optimiser but it would onl...

I would go with the above. Change them now as the wing engine is a contact one. For the sake of the cost of belts weighted against the cost of a stripdown and new valves etc. It's a no brainer....

I thought about the cassette adaptor but went with the wired in Fm modulator. Plugged in the mp3 player and a great sound. Well worth it m8. I got a second hand modulator of ebay for about £6 = $10 or so.

Re: Change ml to km and F to C on GL1800

A suggestion for changing the miles to KMPH or vise versa is to do what I did on my 1500. On another G/W forum there was a member there that was looking for a KMPH speedo and I was looking for an MPH one. The only problem was, he was in Australia and I'm in the UK. No problem though as a month later...

In between the showers today I finally got time to go and have a good look. Took off the cover over the locking mechanism inside the box and it definately looks like there are a couple of small stepper motors there for working the locks complete with wiring. So, it looks like they all came fitted wi...

I used to press the set button and just hold onto the throttle for a few seconds before releasing and it all worked great. as they have said already, it's 80's technology. The newere bikes work quicker but there is still a small delay on my 02 1800.
