Re: left turn signal stays on

Take the top off the switch and remove the small metal tab. Spray liberally with electric switch cleaner. Mine did the same thing 2 weeks ago and this action cured it. Henry

I am doing the "poorboy" conversion on my 84 Aspy. I am ready to remove the crank bolt to install the new pulley. When I take that bolt out aren't those two pulleys that the bolt goes through going to fall off and throw out the timing? If someone who has already done this could answer this question ...

Re: poorboy conversion

Thanks to everyone who responded. A lot of great info from everyone. I have the bike torn apart and am waiting for the kit from "poorboy" and the alternator. I have decided to go with the Denso alternator because of the size. If I have any problems I'm sure I can count on the experience of all the W...

Re: poorboy conversion

Big-Bob; here is a thread I found that you might find interesting www.gl1200goldwings.com/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=7803 It has very clear pictures and explanations. I have searched everywhere and this is the best explaination I have seen so far for the poorboy conversion. glnewbe

Re: Timing belts

I read that the timing belt from a 1983 Toyota Tercel is an exact fit for a 19894 gl1200a, does anyone have any experience or advise on this?

Re: poorboy conversion

Ok..Thanks everyone for your input. I have pretty well decided to go with the conversion, however I have only had the bike on one very short ride (about 5 miles) afraid the battery would go dead and I don't know much about Wings. I down loaded a repair manual hoping to see how to remove the fairing....

Re: poorboy conversion

I charged the battery today and checked it with a multimeter 12.5 volts. No increase when I started the engine. Cut off the plug on 3 yellow wires and tested each one to ground with engine running. Showed less than 1 volt on each wire. Does this mean stator is toast?

I just bought a 1984 gl1200, with 47000 km (29000 mi) picking it up tomorrow. The po says it needs a new stator. I am reading everything I can find about keeping it original or doing the poor boy conversion. A lot of negative info about poor boy conv. Has anyone done this conversion and put a lot of...
