Electrics - Starter Motor

Am having problems starting my 1998 1500 GL Trike conversion. The battery is good, readings are high, and it's practically new (Yuasa YTX24HL-BS, 12V 21Ah - CCXA350). Am using a Deltran Tender 800 (w/p) 12V-800mA to float battery whilst not in use, although have been untold that this really is not s...

Re: My first bike

I bought my first bike in 1959, a Lambretta 150cc! I remained with Lambrettas until well into the eighties, when a works colleague convinced me that I should buy his Honda CB500, with 'dropped' bars! My son accompanied me to view the bike - he riding a Honda Superdream. He rode the CB500 home, I fol...

Re: How to winterize your motorcycle

Basics for bringing your GW back to life in the spring: I feel awfully left out here! I live in Thailand, daily temps running at an average 35 degs C, and my Goldwing GL1500 SE Trike goes out every day throughout the year, so it never gets "Put up" for the winter, and therefore never needs to be "b...

Re: 2015 Goldwing (40th Anniversary) disappointment

I don't mean to counter anything said in any way. I have no argument whatsoever with any opinion expressed, however I just looked at the bike mentioned in the post for the first time just now. My changing bikes recently has a lot to do with the subject. Luxury motorcycles. Bluetooth and smartphone ...

Re: 2001-2015 Gl1800 Quad, yes Quad, as in 4 wheels

Will certainly catch the eye, but the price is a real "no-no"! Certainly not road legal here in Thailand, quad bikes are definitely off-road only. Some comments are on the right line, get a soft top if you want four wheels and fun!

Re: Average age ?

I'm 81, knocking on 82, but when I'm in the saddle I'm as old as my fellow riders! Had the wing, a trike, for close on six years now, after riding everything from 125s to 850s, but bad legs put me on the wing, and even if I was fit and mobile I wouldn't go back to solos

Re: Battery Tender Jr.

Once again, my thanks. You're right, the unit is encapsulated in resin! BUT!! I reread the manual and it says in plain words that if the battery is below a "rechargeable" state the unit will not commence charging. I quote: "If you try to charge a dead battery having a voltage below 3 Volts, the 'cha...

Re: Battery Tender Jr.

As much as I appreciate your response - and advice - I regret it is not the answer! As pointed out in my original post, this is Thailand, and to return the unit to Deltran is impractical, costs, shipping, etc. In addition, its return would not only incur shipping costs, but import duties -again, whi...

Re: Battery Tender Jr.

Hi! Remember me? Bought the Deltran 800 12v Automatic Tender and we discussed its connectivity and placement earlier this year. Has worked great for 18 months now. Problem has arisen! It doesnt work! Connected up this morning, nothing. Checked power supply, socket and connector (Plug), no green/oran...

Re: BulletHD Biker Pro Camera Review

Paul, (before anyone else asks), how long does the battery last on the GoPro? Is it rechargeable. or replaceable? Are the controls actually on the camera or on a remote unit? I know, I can Google it - but what is this forum for if we cant ask questions? LOL!

"Winger 1976" Your final recommendation! Did you know that is the first rule of biking? Look where you are going, not where you are nor where you've been! Hahaha!

Re: Average age ?

I'm 18 - been riding - whoops, finger trouble, I'm 81! ... been riding since the late fifties on all kinds of bikes, and with Goldwings for five years. For sure, one of the most reliable and comfortable bikes I've ever ridden. I turned to Goldwings through "bad" legs! Founds a trike which allowed me...

Re: Please tell who or what made you buy a Goldwing

It's a real shame that fellas - fellow-bikers - cant just talk together about their thoughts, dreams and concerns without getting bitchy. I read Littlegoldy's comments regarding the threat from other road-users, and understood them. I've been riding bikes for over 50 years now and have similar conce...

It has some very attractive beaches, excellent tourist resorts, (some quite pricey!) and magnificent national parks, both wet and dry! Th...

Re: Please tell who or what made you buy a Goldwing

My first two-wheeler was a Lambretta 125cc back in 1959. I used it to travel to and from work in central London. In '63 I upgraded to a 150cc Lambretta, again for computing, and was then offered a Honda CB500cc by a work colleague. His wife was insisting that a new addition to the family did not go ...

A little story to add to the "Sidcar" contribtion Above!
I had a mate who road a combo - bike and sidecar. On one occasion he took the 'car off- dont know for why. Anyhow, out riding one day he came to red light, braked, came to a halt - and fell over! He had forgotten he was riding a solo!

Re: DEFINE; Biker and Motorcyclist

Bikers are elitists. It's HD or NOTHING! Motorcyclists are in it for the ride. Destination is just the place where you start planning your next ride. There's your 3 sentences. And I definitely fall under the Motorcyclist description. I also wave at ALL riders and stop to help if needed. I don't car...

Re: Battery Tender Jr.

First of all, I live in Thailand. We do not have the vast selection of equipment and accessories that the western world has! Virtually what you see for sale is a "one-off" purchase with little or no support, or follow up sale. I bought my Deltran Battery Tender - Waterproof 800 - last year, and alth...

Just received a weather report from Mexico! The weather in Mexico changed drastically this week, A cold front. But so cold that it snowed in the states near Mexico City. All around the city (Puebla, Queretaro, Guanajuato, Toluca, Hidalgo, Oaxaca). Perhaps he's snowed in somewhere!

Re: Darkside Tech: Using Car Tires on a Motorcycle Rim

Thank you for a most in-depth report on tyres. I am not an expert on tyres, but I have ridden bikes for over sixty years, so have some experience. I am now on my final bike, a 1992 GW Trike conversion. Lots of discussion on the use of CT on front wheel of trikes, reversed, and of course, I have CTs ...

quite an outstanding write-up of a fabulous journey, and do hope that it continues.

My utmost admiration goes out to you! It's every biker's dream to get out on the road - forever! I'm way past it now (80-y-o-a), but still push my "Oldwing" (I like that description) every day, but my days are numbered. Quite an outstanding write-up on an incredulous journey, and the envy of every b...
