Re: MOTORCYCLE LIFT

If you go on the net, and search motorcycle lifts, and then look at the parts manual for them you can get a pretty good schematic to build one. here is one you can have a look at. http://directlift.ca/manuals/1000lbsmotorcycle.pdf
Good luck :)

Re: 83 GL1100 Aspencade. tons of parts

Hi, I'm looking for a right side saddlebag cover if you have on. I am repainting so the color doesn't matter. Let me know and the price if you have it.
Thanks

Re: Valve Stems

I know, when I worked in a service station years ago we would have been fired if we changed a tire and didn't put a new valve stem in !! I guess it is partially my fault for not asking for a new valve stem, something I will never forget to do again.

Valve Stems

I believe this has been noted before, however for everyones safety I want to reiterate, when you replace your tires ALWAYS replace your valve stem. I had a new rear tire installed this summer in Sturgis at the Metzler booth and they did not replace the valve stem. That $1.81 piece of equipment almos...

Re: Seafoam in tank, now runs like starved for fuel.

Seems coincidental, but the same thing happened to me on my 83 1100. I had run a couple of tanks with seafoam in it ( first time I ever tried this) and I had that exact problem. I changed the filter and the fuel lines as they were originals and still had the problem. However, when it happened at the...

Re: Shifter (Transmission) sticking on my 83 interstate

Hi, When did you last change the clutch? I had that problem after the clutch discs had been replaced. The problem was that the basket hadn't been changed and the disc tabs were catching on the old ridges in the basket. What I ended up doing was taking a complete clutch and basket out of a parts moto...

Re: 83 interstate starter problem

If you have bench tested the starter, that is when the starter was out of the bike and you have connected a set of jumper cables to your battery and the positive to the post on the starter and the negative to the body of the starter and the starter did not turn, then the problem is in the starter. T...

Re: Gasket question

One last comment on this, the gasket is also a spacer so you need it even if you are using a liquid gasket material. Without the gasket in there, you cannot shift gears, Ask me how I know that !!! I had a mechanic who took about 3 extra hours because he tried to do it without a new gasket, and it wa...

Re: MOTORCYCLE LIFT

Bill,
If you go on the Princess Auto site, you should be able to find some good pictures of MC lifts, much like the Harbour Freight ones. If you need more detail, I may be able to get some dimensions if they still have one in stock here in Ottawa.

Re: Tires

I don't know that tire, however, I am running Metzler ME 880's and I got 28,000 kms (17,500 miles) out of the rear tire and I have now got just over 39,000 kms (24,375 miles) on the front tire. These are superb in all weather and particularly good in the rain. When you are riding on only two tires y...

Re: front wheel wobble

I would check the front tire for cupping, this is a major and common cause of a low speed front end wobble. I know, it has happened to me.

Re: GL 1100 tires

Guys, I run Metzeler ME 880's and I have had superb mileage and performance out of these tires. 29,000 km's (18,000 miles) on the rear and I currently have 37,000 KM's on the front tire which will safely see me through this fall and then I will change it in the spring to start the new season. As for...

Thanks, I was hoping that I could get them off the shelf without having to order them. I was sure that I had seen something in one of the posts on here about these brushes, but darned if I can find it now that I need it, LOL isn;t that always the case.

Again thanks for the reply,

Brushes for 83 1100I Starter

I am refreshing my starter and I thought that I had seen a note with the NAPA part number for the brushes. Would anyone have some info on that or do I just take the old brushes into the NAPA store?
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks

Re: Radiator empty, Reservoir full

I don't know if they have a history of warping. I just replaced my headgaskets in May at 290,000 km and there was no warp in them at all. We (my mechanic friend and I) used a steel straight edge to check and there didn't seem to be any problem. A point to pay particular attention to is making sure t...

Re: Radiator empty, Reservoir full

My problem was two fold, one was that the reservoir cap (not the rad cap) was cracked and thus there was no vacuum to suck the fluid from the reservoir into the rad. That was why the reservoir was full and the rad empty. Have you refilled your rad? If so, check under the bike for a tiny drop of anti...

Re: Radiator empty, Reservoir full

I had this problem a few years ago. The reason that the reservoir was full and the rad empty was because the reservoir cap had a crack in it and thus there was no vacuum to pull the fluid into the rad. The reason the rad was empty was because the water pump was shot and when this happens the antifre...
