Re: First Goldwing - 1981 GL1100

+1 on the timing belt change, cheap insurance for the motor. In my humble opinion, the naked wings are more desirable, They just look so lean and cool! The gas tank looks awesome. With the bike on the side stand, does it tend to sit straight up? Or does it lean properly? If its fairly straight your ...

Ah, GEEEZZZZ. It would seem that while I was trotting about England for a month on holiday - my Step son (who seems to have a bit of the devil in him) deemed it appropriate to post in my place. My apologies for any hurt feelings. I do hope no offense was taken. Re: Carb rebuild leaking around float bowl gasket

I have had good experience with K&M kits. Its either gaskets or your floats are set wrong. During instillation did you make SURE the floats were 15.5mm from heel to toe? They have to be SPOT ON! "Close enough" will simply not work. If you want the best of kits, Randaks (sp?) is, of course, the one. ...

Go with the Sylvania sealed beam halogen bulb. $18 and it does a d***n good job of it! The LED bulbs are AWESOME! But the Sylvania is quite impressive. Regards, Johnny

You may have to remove the shift lever to facilitate starter removal. Mark the lever position before you remove it, makes it a lot easier to install correctly. Excellent how to from this site: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=259

Re: Charging Problems, Please Help Me

Yep- under false tank on the left. Easy to replace- take off bolts, unplug, and plug in replacement and bolt into place.
I would put the voltmeter on it before you reassemble the bike, and see what your readings are when its running.
Good luck! Regards, Johnny

Re: Charging Problems, Please Help Me

Check your connections, especially the infamous " three yellow wires ". Make sure they are good. Then my guess would be the rectifier. When my rectifier went out, a small portion of the back melted, exposing some metal, which grounded out to the frame. Found a used one and all is fine. Good luck. Re...

Re: Pressurized fuel tank

Yep, soak the cap overnight in white vinegar. Then use plenty of air to clean it out.
Clogged vents can lead to fuel pump failure over time. Also can cause leaking carbs. Regards, Johnny

Re: Accel Coil replacement or stay stock?

Try a set of coils off of a 1996 or so Dodge Neon. They will wire right in and sell for $25 to $30 from a junk yard. I tried it and I aint going back to stock. There is a nice difference on the low end in power. A quick search here will get ya the info. Well worth the effort, and better than stock. ...

Re: Picking up and Riding 800 miles

Glad you got home safe and this post is a little late.... but I disagree on the belt change. Your chances of the belt breaking on the way home are very very slim. Changing timing belts on anything is not a hurried job in a motel parking lot. For others in same situation. Check the bike over as clos...
