Re: nice christmas present

Unfortunately the first gentleman that looked at it fell in love and paid the asking price without the customary " haggle ". I say unfortunate because, deep down, I didn't really want to let it go ! I advertised it and then left the ad up on the PC so that the wife would see that I " tried ". I can'...

Re: Does your 1500 crank with the kill switch off?

I don't have to run out to the garage to check. I reluctantly sold my 1989 GL1500 two months ago and when the interested buyer had looked it all over, he asked if he could start it. I naturally said "sure" as it had always fired immediately. But, not this very important time !!! As it turned out, af...

cable lube

Does anyone know if there is a video on lubricating the clutch, brake, and throttle cables ? I have an 89 GW with 74k on it and probably never had the cables lubed. I would guess that they would have to be detached at the handlebars and the lubrication forced down the cable but, have no clue as to h...

clutch fluid

I would like to replace the fluid for the clutch. If I open the bleeder will it drain out without operating the clutch lever and I can just keep putting fresh fluid in the reservoir until fresh fluid comes out of the bleeder ?

( getting to them was the hard part ) ! Now I'm ready for the warm riding season. See Y'all on the highway ...

Re: replacing alternator on 89GL1500

Also, I should apologize for expressing my frustrations on this forum. I know that I should just download a service manual to guide me. However, wifey dear is not real happy with me as she was not happy when I brought the bike home ( in Dec.), then money for new Alt. and just to keep from being shot...

Re: replacing alternator on 89GL1500

On my machine, the small wire ( that has the square capacitor attached ) the opposite end of that wire goes up under the body panel that is immediately behind the reverse lever. The new alternator comes with that small wire ( with the square capacitor ) attached, and the other end of that wire has a...

fuse box

This past weekend, My son and I, replaced the timing belts on my "new" 1989 GL 1500. While the tupperware was off , I decided to open the fuse box as I have never checked it out. Noticed that the first fuse ( acc ) that called for a 5 amp. fuse had been replaced with a 25 amp. by the PO. Question: s...

front wheel adjustment ?

Reading past posts, some said that leaving the Wings up on center stand for an extended period of time without blocking the front wheel off the floor, may cause a permanent flat spot on the tire. So--- I blocked the front up off the floor. Today I walked past and gave the wheel a spin expecting it t...

As soon as the weather permits, I'm going to run it through the gears for a couple of hours---and if I have any of the described symtoms of early tranny problems, there is going to be a beautiful, black, 1989 GL1500, for sale at a very reasonable price !!!! :(

1500 transmission

From what I have read so far--the early 1500s had 4th and 5th gear problems. Does that mean that the 88s and 89s WILL eventially have transmission problems with higher mileage ?? :(

Thanks bustedwing--I can't wait till the Ohio weather starts to look like Georgia weather! I just want to run this thing through the gears as I have only done that one time !! When I bought the bike, the weather was pretty foul ( cold-rain ) so my test ride was pretty short. Upon reading the posts i...
