Re: So my timing belt broke, now what?

Im rebuilding the head, using Parts n More from Canada.....4 new valves, seals, gaskets, etc.....

anyways, my question is, can I get away with just rebuilding one head at a time or will this in turn, mess up other aspects of the engine?

Anyone in the know?

Thanks in advance!

Re: So my timing belt broke, now what?

Tensioner wheel spins freely, no wiggles to it that I can see. Not sluggish at all.

I threw out the belt when I took it off, but it did look frayed. I didnt snap any pics of the belt although hindsight.....smh.....

Re: So my timing belt broke, now what?

I finally found time to get the head off. Thanks goodness, no hole or dings in the piston. Looks like its valve replacement time though. As expensive as it was, I went ahead and ordered the OEM Honda belts. Maybe I just got a bad belt, the other one seems fine, tension isnt overtight, in my opinion....

There was no loud bang and I was actually able to get it back running, albeit on two cylinders though.

Thanks!

So my timing belt broke, now what?

I changed my timing belts 23,000 miles ago. I used Napa belts, all the timing was dead on. Bike died on me about 10 miles from home, this year, and I did get it to start to drive it home (unbenounced to me that I was running on two cylinders and that my timing belt was broken). It sat for a month be...

Re: Boiling battery

While you are at it, follow the negative lead to where it grounds to chasis and ensure that it is tight! It may not be the issue, but its a quick check. Ive had issues with mine coming loose. Best of luck.

Re: Seafoam

I addd it to the crankcase, drove for about 100 miles, performed two oild changes, to ensure that I got all the residual out. You wouldnt believe all the emulsified sludge that came out of that case! Wow!

Re: Seafoam

Seafoam has been around since the 1930's. Its actually a petroleum product. It will not deteriorate your seals, it cleans as git goes. Seafoam added to gasoline, will keep the gas good for over 2 years. Ive been using it on my 80 GW for the past 4 years now, no issues, just improvements. Liquid Gold!

Re: cleaning wind shield

There is a plastic polish that works wonders, its a two or three step process. The name escapes me now, but if I can remember it, I'll be back. ;)

Re: Windshield

I switch windshields between Spring, Summer and then back to the tall one for Fall. I made my own smaller windhield for my Windjammer. Got lucky and just bought some scrap piece from Lowes for $5.00, at 5 bucks, what did I have to lose? Works great for warmer weather and soon Im switching to the tal...

Re: WANTED GL1100 headlight bucket

Thanks for the reply rabid, Im just looking for the bucket that houses the headlight. I have a Vetter fairing now, but the bad thing is that if I remove the fairing, the headlight goes with it.

Re: 1980 Gl1100 Starter Relay/30 amp main fuse

The only thing that I can think of that would draw that much current would be your starter. Perhaps the relay stuck and kept supplying voltage to teh starter, time elapsed and overheated causing the meltdown. Ugh.
