Re: Progressive Fork Spring Install

Update.... I just went 25 miles and hit some ruff terrain in a park. I was purposely hitting pot holes and other ruff parts of the road. Not once did it bottom out! So happy the bike rides fantastic. I'm 200 and had a 115 passenger on the back. That and again very noticible difference going on the c...

Re: Progressive Fork Spring Install

Nice, I have my air hooked up still but haven't added air yet. I haven't even ridden it.... ugh. So I can't say much at this point and I did put 412s on the back to. But I can't tell u this, it sits higher period. Way easier to get on the center stand.... that is very, very noticeable.

Progressive Fork Spring Install

Of course the OEM springs in the 80 interstate saw better days. So I pulled the trigger on progressives off of fleabay. Tired of bottom outs (Michigan) u guys in the south and west have it made. 77.00 delivered not bad at all. They went in easy thanks to the likes of Little Beaver who I'd like to th...

Re: progressive 412s

Heavy duty, I weight 215-220 geared up and carry a lot of things in my bags.

Rides nice, no regrets and it's now that much more reliable-no air leak worries.

My old ones can be had cheap if anyone wants them to rebuild!

Re: progressive 412s

Well of course I put the bags on before testing it. I went one click up from the softest. I weigh about 220 geared up. Plus I carry everything minus the kitchen sink in my bags. Sounds like I should be good. Thanks for chiming in. I can't wait to get on it. It was a mother to get on the center stand...

Re: GL1100 alternator conversion (how I did mine)

I believe the poorboy kit will work on a 1200. I used the diagram on this thread and went with a 3 inch diameter pulley I had a machine shop cut it pulley. I paid good money and the pulley is steel and heavy and I believe acts as a balance to boot. It runs smooth....

Re: GL 1100 1982 Battery Slowly Discharges When ignition is turned off

Thanks for this post, I have the same issue and believe it's my ignition switch. I plan to rebuild the switch. Mine will sometimes drain in a week if not plugged in. I'm soooo mounting that kill switch. Thanks for the pics that's a great spot!

Re: starter question

Buy a rebuild kit and change out the brushes. Also your starter is probably all dirty/carboned up. That's probably causing the wire to heat up as its drawing a lot of amps. Makes a huge difference to clean them out. I'd picked up a used one on eBay and change out the mounting bplt when u have it apa...

Re: Aftermarket Brake Components

I'd go with some eBay special calipers and rebuild them if yours are too bad. Used aftermarket levers work ok. But be sure to spent the money and get the stainless brake lines. I went that route like posted above, from the same Canadians! Those lines are very nice and a big difference.

Re: GL1100 alternator conversion (how I did mine)

I would start with the thermostat then the pump. Did you burp out the radiator good check the level of radiator fluid? I haven't seen the slightest change in temps then again MI isn't the hottest state in th Union.

Re: Electrical Gremlin.....

Just an update....I changed the starter solenoid and I believe that did the trick. Have there been a lot of other 1100 owners with a battery drain from the solenoid? I took two reading after resting the battery on the bench then installing 12.85. Started pulling fuses one by one (replacing after a f...
