Books

Well I got rid of my GL1000s and bought a 2000 Valkyrie.

I got the owners and service manuals online for free for my GL1000s.
Anyone have a link for a FREE service and owners manual for the 2000 VALKYRIE or GL1500 since it's a GL1500C...so I'm sure it's not too different.

Re: backfire when cold

It still has me baffled. I can start the bike first time every time. It will idle perfect. It will even ride perfect...BUT it has to warm up for 5 mins. Try to ride it before then and it will backfire and not respond to the throttle correctly....going a little crazy.

Re: backfire when cold

Good ideas. I rebuilt the carbs and petcock about 2 1/2 years ago. Cleaned fuel tank etc. I'll look at fuel pump but I think I replaced it 1 year ago...maybe that was on the 77. I'll have to look and see.

backfire when cold

So a few days ago my 78 started not responding properly when throttling. when going to ride the best way to describe it it's..like it was getting gas then not then getting gas and so on until it warmed up. During this time it also decided to start back firing. ..loud with sparks. but when the bike w...

Re: tail lights

They aren't required in MS but I do have them. That led strip on the bottom have 4 left and 4 right led for turning and 4 running/break lights. Awesome ebay find.

Re: No spark on 1 and 2

I had no spark on 1 and 3. Just a timing issue after I replaced the timing belt.

While I was at it I replaced coils and ignition with Dyna.

runs like a champ!!!

Re: No spark on 1 and 2

Also a note if the cam gear moved and you were off by a tooth it would still fire just sound horrible. and if it was off by more than a tooth there would possibly be mechanical failure. good luck. I hate electrical problems too! After I did the timing bet I took it for a spin and it ran perfect so ...

Re: No spark on 1 and 2

Grrr... so confused right now. Coils tested fine off the bike. 2 caps tested and failed individually...but work when on the bike.

I must have a point problem. I guess I'll get into that next.

Still no spark on 1 and 2.

time to buy a continuity light tester.

No spark on 1 and 2

So I replaced the timing belts on the old 78. started perfect and took it for a spin. This morning I go to start it up and I am not getting spark on 1 and 2. Should I immediately think of replacing the right coil or should i think that the timing might be off....even though it ran perfect yesterday?...

Well spookytooth I did it.

Finally got around to putting a number plate on the front mudguard. Thanks for the inspiration.

I haven't put on any knee pads yet. Still tossing up about those. Thinking they won't stand out on the black enough.

Re: 78 Gl1000 cafe

Mine are spongy too. I really noticed the differwnce in them when I changed the handlebars. New internal springs and seals I think will do the trick.
