Re: Carb removal...AAHHH!!!

So far, so good. I never had it running this good. Again thanks to all that gave input on this. As far a Cyber Cycle, I have not had any problems with them, but I have only purchased a couple of items from them on their Ebay store, and have not had to return any items. I also noticed that they are n...

Re: Carb removal...AAHHH!!!

I want to thank every one for their help and input. I did change both the hoses that go to the heat riser. The leaking coolant was not from the riser, it was from the hoses. Then after installing the carb the second leak was from a bad hose clamp that blew coolant onto the heat riser... hard to diag...

Re: Carb removal...AAHHH!!!

:o Oh oh! Silence? I checked with Honda and the carb heat riser is no longer available. Used parts places will only sell the whole carb assy. I will try the by pass, and send an update on the results.

Re: Carb removal...AAHHH!!!

After installing and removing the carbs twice I still have a coolant leak under the carbs. The new hoses are dry but the bottom of the carbs by the heat riser are wet. I still can not pin point where on the heat riser it is leaking. I pulled the carbs again and did a simple pressure test on the heat...

Re: Carb removal...AAHHH!!!

Thank you for the update on that. I know there were several changes to the system since it came out, just not sure which was when.

Re: Carb removal...AAHHH!!!

Yes there is a leak at the heat riser on the base of the carb. I saw a reply on one of the posts here and the question can up about bypassing it, and I was wonder if it would be functional. I decided to order and replace the water tubes, seeming I am that far down into it. There is no slack on these...

Re: Carb removal...AAHHH!!!

I want to thank every one for the input. As soon as I get back to the garage I will let you know how successful I was I saw some discussion about bypassing the heat riser on the carbs. How critical is the coolant heat riser to the operation of the 1500, and can it be bypassed without doing any damag...

Carb removal...AAHHH!!!

I am in the process of removing the carbs on a "93 1500. It is leaking coolant from the hose that connects into the carb and it also has the infamous idle surge. I followed the Claymer manual, and everything is disconnected except for the coolant lines that go to the carb. I have to find an extra lo...

Re: Short legs

Thanks for the info OldZX11Rider. I am glad you mentioned that. I was talking to a Valkary rider last fall and he mentioned that he put a car tie on the rear of his bike and it vastly improved the handling and the over all ride comfort and much better traction especially in the rain. I haven't seen ...

Re: Short legs

Thanks for your input. Yes It is very expensive. Last I checked it was over $3,000 not installed. I still can't find a place that sell it, only in China, and I am not sure if it is legal for US MVD regulations.
Thanks for the reply.

Re: Short legs

Thanks. I have been looking for a seat from '98 to 2000 for a year and no luck. Most of the used parts places don't know what year the seats were from, and I don't know of any marking on the seat to designate the year. The Honda dealers only know that the part number in the book is different, and th...

Re: Short legs

Yes I have removed all of the foam from the sides of the seat, and I have found that the using the back brake does work better and eliminates a lot of the forward inertia that throws by feet out of place just before the moment of stop. I do use both breaks to slow down just before a stop and release...

Short legs

I asked a similar question before in regard to my short legs and being able to reach the ground with my hole foot on my '93 gl1500. I cut out about 2 1/2" of foam out of the seat, which gave me a gain of 1/2" closer to the ground. I know it is more a matter of the width of the bike that spreads the ...

Re: Lower fairng ad-on heat vents

Thanks Mike B. Those are the vents I am talking about. I have a set that were painted to match my 1500. The narrow vertical vents fell apart, and are not repairable. I have been trying other size vents for other products and Hondas, but no luck. I was hoping to find the manufacturer to see if they m...

Re: Lower fairng ad-on heat vents

Thanks for the info, but it is not the one I was looking for. The one I am referring to bolts onto the shark fins and it is formed to look like part of the lower fairing, and sticks out a few inches. I will try to get a photo of one.

Lower fairng ad-on heat vents

There used to be a company that made ad-on heat vents for the 1500. The units bolted on the lower fairing cowl vent and re-directed the heat to a vent to heat the drive/passenger. It has a lever/flapper that blocked off the air flow from the radiator and directed it to a vent when closed. When opene...

Re: Short legs; can I lower a 1500

Thanks for all the input. I did remove the seat cover and cut almost 2" of foam off the center of the seat, with a taper up to the front. I also trimmed the sides. After all of that, I only gained about 1" of clearance, which helps, but not much. "ka4yqi", You are correct. I was talking a fellow "wi...

Short legs; can I lower a 1500

Is there any way to lower a 1500 suspension beyond just lowering the air shock, such as a lowering kit, etc.? I still have a hard time balancing the bike on the tips of my toes, with all of the air out of the rear shock. I even thought about very thick sole on my shoes. Thanks.

Re: 1500 windshield

Thanks for the info, every one. I thought about cutting the Tulsa down, but the height is not the only problem, it is also the lower angle of the windshield. After taking measurements, even if I take off several inches, the pitch is so low, it is still in the way for me. If anyone has an inverted V ...

1500 windshield

I have to get a new windshield for my 1500. Does anyone have any feed back on the "Euro Style" / "Inverted V" windshields. currently have a "Tulsa" and with my spinal problems, I keep hitting my head on it when getting on and off the bike, because I can not bend enough to clear it. I saw a couple of...

Re: One Rear Air Shock?

I thank every for the information. The shocks are fine, I was just wondering why the old GW had two air adjustable shocks and the new one had only one. So it is more for height adjustment, depending on the load. That helps me. I have short legs, LOL.

One Rear Air Shock?

I was just wondering why there is only one adjustable rear air shock on the 1500. Is it jus to raise and lower the bike, or for the load (weight) on the bike, or for handling, or for all three? Why not two like on the old wings?

Thanks, glk17l.
