Re: fork seals

Might look up the Seal Mate on the internet.
There are links for home made items and also a couple videos for how to use it.

I have had more good results than bad with them. Sometimes you just have to replace the seals.

Re: stator gl1200 interstate

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the total output of the Stator is rated at something like 360 Watts. That is a nominal 30 amps at 12 vdc. Virgilmobile gave you good numbers for testing and if you are into electronics math you could probably calculate the actual output pretty closely if every...

Re: gl1200 engine oil leak

As you are standing in front of the bike looking at it, just to the right of the oil filter and underneath is a small machined hole. It is the weep hole and it is an open air space in the water pump bearings between the Oil side and the Antifreeze side. If you look there and see anti freeze or oil d...

Modular at the moment.
My next one will most likely be a traditional full face. Feel somewhat safer out there with the cage commuters.

The Brass pointy screw with a spring sounds like an idle air adjustment screw. They sit at the outboard corner front or back on each carburetor so you could adjust each one. 100_3551.JPG That picture might help you see where on a carb it is. Having one of those back all the way out would also cause ...

Re: How Many Miles......

156 miles for me. Rode down the peninsula through Oly and over through Yelm. Wound up in Graham to watch my nieces son win his first a main event in Quarter Midget Heavy Honda class. He was jazzed for sure. Rode from there through old stomping grounds up to South Tacoma. Went to my other nieces 3 yr...

Re: 7 Volt Regulator

My response is not specific to this 7 volt regulator issue. I can however relay a very similar story regarding a pair of shocks I ordered from a member on another site. I actually talked to the Post Office, they had the ticket for the package but it was in the wrong Post office which of course could...

Re: Muffler rusted out!!

Ebay or a shop breaker would be your best choice for used stock. Of course it is buyer beware. Another option would be Harley Davidson pull-offs. Can be had for next to free and made to look nearly stock. Several posts show pictures of that setup with anything from Roadking flares to Fishtails. Your...

Re: Sleeping beauty says, give me some proof!!

Well not definitive but at least a comparison. Cagers that use the timing belt approach have a maintenance service level around 60K miles and there are tons of stories about broken belts. Those engines are similar setup as a GW but they also turn around 3K rpm normally but can go to 5K rpm or so. A ...

In an issue this spring Kevin discussed being hired to a Motorcycle magazine and not being a rider. He then when on in next issue or so to get his endorsement and discuss Gear, etc. I don't know what he rides now but I think he is actually trying to broaden the brand at least how he fits into it. I ...

Re: Original Rear Shocks Rebuildable?

Rebuildable yes. You can buy new seals, progressive springs and even the damper sections. There are a couple of tutorials on shock rebuilds I think there is even on this site. The search tool should find it for you. an 1100 tutorial is almost completely the same. If you cannot find it someone else s...

Reusable Fuel filter. http://randakks.com/collections/filters/products/randakks-high-performance-fuel-filter Randakk's has done a lot of great stuff for the Goldwing fuel systems especially on the early 4 cylinders. Re: GL1500 Projector HID Headlight Install

Bigdog been tracking your tutorial. This looks great.
Wonder if one of these would fit into a 1200 lamp.

What is the mounting depth necessary inside the lamp for the projector?
Did you take any measurements in there?

I might be willing to attempt this this winter if it looks possible.

LadyArwen welcome to the forum. Like others have mentioned 36-38 mpg riding 2 up should be reasonable. I average 38-42 on my 120 mile commutes. depending on how I ride and the traffic around me of course. On fuel filter consider a Randakks performance filter they can be cleaned and put back on the b...

Re: GL1200 Float Height

My manual says 7.5mm or 9/32 (0.281) I have also heard 0.30. What I do know is that delta is only 19/1000 of an inch. Barely discernable by todays standards. So I would say you are generally in the ballpark if you made sure the little spring loaded plunger on the needle valve was just being touched ...

Delo 400 LE 15W40 is what my wing likes. about $12/ gal @ the local walmart. I hear the Rotella T6 is also good for the wings. Re: Fork Seals, GL1200

I like to wrap that upper fork section in packing tape just a little over once around. Protects the inside of your new seal from the rough edges, actually sharp edges of the inner fork and its slider bushing. Once the seal is over them and on the smooth hard chrome you can remove the wrap of tape. I...

Re: 1985 GL1200 idle issue

Did the idle screws have plugs over them? Essentially if that helped then unless a bit of,rust or other debris got in through bowl vent you should be dealing with a soluble plug of gunk. It may break down or it could plug up. Just don't know. Could try bowls and while drain screw is out, try flushin...

Re: 1985 GL1200 idle issue

Here is a picture of one Idle screw. It is either front left carb as sitting on the bike or back right carb as sitting on the bike. 100_3551.JPG They may be under soft plugs and to remove you would need to drill small hole and then use a small screw into them to pull it out. Be careful not to lose t...
