Do a Google search on that tire size to get an idea on what's available.

Re: head gasket job

The bike was built for 87 octane, doesn't need higher. Starter clutch is very common. One common fix is to drain off some oil about a pint more or less and put in Marvel Mystery oil, run it about 100-200 miles, and then change oil. This usually fixes it but not always. I've owned GL1100's and they a...

Re: Apache Trail

About 2 years ago I took the road from Roosevelt Dam to Tortilla Flats. I have a 1982 Goldwing with a Monaco sidecar. Challenging it was, washboard road in stretches I could do 20 mph. Would smooth out for a short while and could do 30 until the next washboard section. At times I thought the sidecar...

Re: head gasket set

Glad I could help. I've changed at lease 8 gaskets on the GL1100 over the years. I'm on my 4th GL1100 since 1985 as I use them on my sidecar . This will probably be my last one as it's no longer fun to work on them at age 79. good luck and you might check out Randakks for theprocedure. Doug

Re: Drain carbs for winter storage, or just add Stabil and keep carbs full?

I always fept tank and carbs filled with gas and Seafoam. One year I drained it and in the spring had several leaks until the gaskets absorbed gas. After that I always kept it wet. Now I live in the Phoenix area and don't have that problem ! :D

A 1949 BMW R24, 250cc was my first in 1957. I was stationed in France in the Air Force, speedo was rusted out and it may have had original tires. Transferred to Erding Germany in November and drove it with no problems . Left it when went to Libya .

Re: 5W-20 oil

Many use Delo 400LE 15w40 or Shell Rotella 15w40 with good results. Though they are diesel oil they have all the ingredients needed on motorcycles. They also have synthetic oils but that's a waste of money on 30-40 year old motorcycles.

Re: 87-93 octane

10% alcohol is not a problem if you drive the bike often, on my 4th GL1100 on sidecars and they run well. Also 87 octane is what they are designed for. Ethanol has been around for over 35 years and has not destroyed my carbs.

Start the bike and let it idle for several minutes, without it moving the temp goes up and the fan will turn on.

Re: GWRRA Members ???

I've been a member for 8 years now nere in Mesa AZ. I drive a 1982 GL1100 with a sidecar. No one has put me down for the Old wing I have. The magazine has little for me also with the 1100 but I stay because of the friends I've made in the club. We don't ride as much as we would like due to my wife's...

Will do. Thanks for the quick response. I may be buying another 82 tomorrow so not a big rush. Have a leaky head gasket and it locked up a couple times. Parts on order but had to drive it the last couple days, hopefully no other problems. Once I get it fixed will sell.

Delo 400 LE is cheap and a very good oil. Been using it for years Also tried Shell Rotella 15-40, it's very good also.

Yes, check your plugs . I had an ignition coil go bad, and was getting about 22 miles per gallon. Replaced the coil and runs very good . But fix your fuel leak first.
