To Winston's Chief, you might want to try the Blackwing forkbrace. I was also somewhat spooked by the slow speed handling until I installed the Blackwing. It was the best $50.00 i have spent. It really did make a difference.

Could be, I think I also heard Eric Clapton use it in a interview once. I always think of it when I see someone wearing sunglasses at night!

I always wondered if that was a misprint. In today's world with much improved plug technology it seems like you would be disposing brand new plugs.

Re: Shortage in my headlights

Check to make sure the start button it's not sticking part way in. That will kill the headlight. Then clean the switch with contact cleaner.

Re: Blacking forkbrace

Keithg64, I have 3 1500's to mount these on. With the 8mm option available, I decided to try the stock 1/4 x 28 first. They work surprisingly well and tightened as much as I would have had I used the original 7mm. Always have the option of going to the 8mm if need be. Sometimes I think to much. BTW ...

Keithg64, have considered the helicoil. Also considered drilling and tapping for 8mm. I can buy countersunk flathead 8mm screws anywhere. What's your thoughts?

Re: Blacking forkbrace

It's Not just the instructions being wrong, it' also the bolts sent with the product. They're not metric bolts. Still waiting for a reply from blackwing. Will post when I hear from them.

Re: Blacking forkbrace

Thanks for the tech info. Have e-mail into blackwing now. Attached is pic of instructions. With the many that have been sold I'm curious as to whether my purchase is different. 40+ years of turning wrenches and never been instructed to install a mismatched bolt.

Re: Blacking forkbrace

Odd, the pic of the blackwing on your product review page shows the countersunk holes. I don't think anything else would work properly. I'll shoot a pic of the instructions later and post.screws that came with the blackwing are definitely 1/4 x 28.

Re: Blacking forkbrace

WingAdmin, my neglect on first post. Haven't updated my profile. Brace is going on a 2000 SE 1500. Brace is labeled for a gl1500. Installation sheet is labeled for a gl1500. In these instructions is states to remove stock cap screws (which are 7mm x 1.0) and mount new brace with 1/4 x 28 countersunk...

Blacking forkbrace

I'm getting ready to install a blackwing forkbrace. The four original Allen bolts you remove are 7 mm with a 1.0 thread pitch. The bolts supplied are 1/4 in x 28 thread. Is this correct to force a different size and thread into the fender stay? Seems odd. Just want to make sure I do it right. Thanks...

Re: Radiator removal

The thermostat replacement is a time consuming job, mostly from just the amount of disassembly. I'm just finishing up a 2000SE. I found the best way to remove the crossover hose was to get both radiators free of the lower mounting peg. With the radiator hose removed slide them both down the center f...

Thanks Virgil, I own a 98se and working on my brother's 2000se. Planned on changing both. I know where that connection is on the schematic l just haven't opened up the bike yet. Should be an easy update. Thanks for the info!

Re: starter turns over but no fire until I let off the button

Virgil, where did you disconnect the harness for the relay modification. A schematic will do. I've made this change on a 1100 but just bought a 1500 and haven't figured all the electrical systems out yet. Definitely more complicated but a fun puzzle. Thanks. Great site!

Re: Motorcyclist Mag article on Ethanol

I'm with you DingDong. In the 50's and 60's all fuel related problems were blamed on bad gas from a particular station or poor maintenance. Nowadays it's all blamed on ethanol! Poor maintenance isn't a issue anymore.

Re: Electronic question

My guess is yes but my experience is with electronic cruise control. The cruise doesn't care whether the p/u is from a magnetic p/u or a speedo input. Since both your systems are from the same mfg I would guess either would work. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

Re: Electronic question

The pulse rate on my 83 Aspencade is approximately 9400 per mile. With your 4 magnets your pulse rate will be approximately 2100. I suspect this would change the the speed at which the system activates and deactivates. On solution would be to add magnets to the rear wheel to up the pulse rate.

Curious, were you leaking Molly 60 grease out of the joint where the differential bolts to the swing arm? I had that problem after the last tire change but I haven't pulled it apart for inspection yet.

Re: Converting Aspy to mechanical speedo

The mechanical gear is the same on all 1100's I believe. The electronic part (pulse generator) attaches to it with one Phillips screw. Remove it and you can attach a regular cable.
