Loading Goldwing onto trailer

Well I finally done it. Over 40 years of motorcycles and sometimes needing to haul them I did something stupid and dropped my 83 Aspencade while driving it up the ramp gate on my flat bed trailer. I bought another vehicle and I rode my bike to pick it up. Left the bike while I drove home to get my t...

Re: Ignition coils

I got a set of 1500 coils off of eBay. A little smaller and a little shorter . Just mounted them on the rear bolt. Had to switch the screw caps on the wires. The 1500 ones are smaller. I now have a spare one. Bike pulls the hills and lugs in high gear better. So far so good. I think the original one...

Ignition coils

I am changing ignition coils my 83 Aspencade. Do I have to have ones specific to the 1100, or will ones for 1200 or 1500 work . I finally got mine removed. They didn't make it easy.

Re: Replacing coils on 83 goldwing

Anyone use Caltric brand coils. They are new replacements out of California . Also do the ones for a 1500 bolt back in the same way as the originals?
Will the voltage be the same as the 1100's?

Re: Replacing coils on 83 goldwing

How do you get those coils out. I have done a lot of work on this bike in the last 6 years I have owned it mainly to save money, but the only good mechanic that worked on these bikes closed shop. I change my own tires. Removed and reinstalled the carbs after having them rebuilt. Put new thermostat a...

Re: Replacing coils on 83 goldwing

my bike is sputtering some while crusing, I have new plugs, wires and boots and a new fuel filter.
Is there a way to test the coils to see if they are OK
The bike runs fine while your giving it throttle.
I had the carbs professionally rebuilt 2 years ago down in Tennessee

Replacing coils on 83 goldwing

What has anyone done to replace the coils? I know they are no longer available. Mine are 34 years old and I want to be prepared in case.
I had heard of some being used off of a Civic.
Thanks

Re: 83 Aspencade value

My problem is my hands keep going numb while riding. When I wake up in the morning my right hand is usually numb and I can't freely move my fingers. I guess it is genetics and 40 years working construction.

83 Aspencade value

I have a 1983 Aspencade like the one at the beginning of this forum. It also has the rear wrap around bumper with lights. I might have to sell it if I can't do something about my arthritis. Can barely ride 25 miles. Last year I was in the hospital 3 times with an infection. I get tired real easy sin...

Getting correct brake pads for 83 1100

How do you make sure you will get the correct brake pads for a 1983 GL 1100 Aspencade? I need both front and back. Also does anyone know where I can get a new rear rotor?
Thanks

Brake pads for 83 Aspencade

I need new brake pads for my 83 1100 Aspencade. Do both front brakes take the same pads? I was looking on Wingstuffs website at EBC pads. Around $ 24.00. I also need the rear pads too,
Thanks

Re: Fork Seals

I used OEM Honda for the seals. I did mine off the bike. Didn't have any trouble seating the seals, but getting proper circlip pliers and getting cap back on with tube back in the triple tree. Because of air fitting it won't go up through triple tree with cap on. Tried that. I need to get new Progre...

Re: Why Aren't You Riding?

I was riding my 83 Aspencade all the time, but last week I went to the ER and they admitted me with UTI that turned sepsis, life threading blood infection. Spent 4 days on IV and antibiotics . Now the medicine I'm on makes me dizzy. I'm 63 and 2 years ago I was riding my Goldwing and had a mini stro...

Re: XM Satellite radio

I found the problem. The power receptacle on bike wasn't holding tight. I switched the XM plug with the one in my van and it works fine. The one I was using on the bike works fine in the van plugs. Can't ride right now because of meds they put me on after having a serious blood infection. Came close...

XM Satellite radio

Anybody else use XM on their bikes? I have had mine about 3 years and last night it started going off and on. When I tapped on it it would come back on and then off again. I think it must of jarred something loose. I guess they are not made good enough to take the jarring on a motorcycle. I will pro...

83 Aspencade clock function

I notice on my clock sometimes it will display the time all the time. Don't know why. When I try to get it to stay on clock it won't stay. I would rather have it on clock and hit the button to check radio station like in my van. The manual does not say anything about it. Has anyone had any luck with...

78 had round turn signals and the 79 had rectangle ones. I had a 79 a few years back. I have an owners Manual for a 79 in good condition if anyone needs one. Can drop it in the mail.

Re: It's ER time.

I would wait to work on your bike. Getting down and bending is hard on good legs working on bikes. I had a TIA while riding my 83 wing over a year and half ago and was lucky enough to be able to park it without dumping it. I couldn't figure out how to get off the bike. It affected my motor skills an...

Re: Nashville bound, keeping it on the trailer,,???

I use 2 soft ties on triple tree making sure they don't hit brake lines. Then I take the side covers off and attach to the frame. I have never used the engine guards. I have done it this way on my 83 Aspencade and on the 1500 I used to have. Never had a problem. Engine guards are too low anyway. Tri...

Re: Spark Plug Boots

Got my boots at my local Honda dealer. Not bad price and I knew they would fit. One day after I had washed my bike It wouldn't run right. Thought it was fuel filter . Turns out water was trapped around one plug boot. Took wire and cleaned out drain hole and no more problems. As far as the seat goes....

Re: Installing Schrader valve on forks on 83 Aspencade

I got to looking and found out the valve inlet on the compressor would fit right in and it holds air. I plan on installing Progressive springs in it this year and shouldn't need any air at all from what I have read.

Installing Schrader valve on forks on 83 Aspencade

My air compressor is not putting air into forks. I am looking for a valve to put on the top of the left fork in place of the hose fitting from the air compressor to be able to put air into them . I still have the stock springs and need a little air. Has anyone done this and where did you find someth...

Re: 83 Aspencade compressor not pumping air

Yes the air line hooks up to the forks. Feed goes to left as you are sitting on bike and has a crossover to the other side. When I get some more money I am going to install Progressives and then won't need any air. My rear air shocks went bad a few years ago and put on regular ones. Man I hate not h...
