Re: SHORT LEGS !! - BIG PROBLEM ???

Do not recall the company name, but they where present at the Wing Ding Tulsa some years back, anyway, they offered a lowering deal that dropped the rear of the bike like 2”. Another thought is loosen the pinch bolts on the fork trees, and slide about 1” of the tubes through, lowering the front of t...

Re: My bike is in the shop

Well, had anew development come up. They got the bike altogether with a good uses driveshaft and the drivesplines, and it turns out there are TWO length drive shafts available. The used one they had turned out to be the short version, so they had to tear it down and reuse my drive shaft( which is in...

That decal is 27 years old, with who knows what kind of neglect before you bought the bike . . . . Don’t sweat it so much.

Re: My bike is in the shop

So the shop is gonna tear into her yesterday afternoon and this morning and call with what they find so I can decide how to proceed from there. The owner has told me he has a good used u-joint for $50, or a new one will be about $180. I don’t know what to do there as we did a used u-joint last year...

Re: My bike is in the shop

The bike has 155K miles on it, 80k of those by me. It got moly grease every tire change (average about 18-20 on a rear tire) and did no show much in the way of wear prior to this . . . Last tire was at 130K .

It is getting moly this time too.

Re: My bike is in the shop

Well, it turned out my thought was wrong, it was not the U-Joint, but was the drive splines . . . They where SHOT ! :o

Can you spot the bad parts and the “new” parts ? I did go used on the parts, but they are in very good shape compaired to what was there. . .

Re: Noise and would not move.

Put the bike on the center stand, in gear with the motor off, and slowly turn the rear wheel, does the click click click come from by the rear tire( splines)or more towards the middle of the bike (u-joint). This test does NOT guarantee the right answer, but gets you pointed I. The right direction. B...

My bike is in the shop

Well, as the title says, my bike is in the shop. Last Sunday the wife and I where returning from a ride to Tulsa, when about 15 miles from home, the bike lost all ability to put power to the ground. The motor would rev, but no matter what gear it was in, all I got was a clatter from below my butt. I...

Is there any antifreeze from Autozone, Advance Auto, etc that is also safe to use ? Just thinking of options for if a hose or clamp should fail on the road.

Re: Anyone been turned away from CycleMax?

I have to say, for me my go to people, in order are : 1) Wing Enterprises, a locally owned (in OKC) Mom & Pop wing shop (always support local business when I can) 2) Cyclemax.com , we all know who they are 3) E-Bay, Craigslist, Wing stuff.com & 4) any where else I might find the part I did have one ...

Re: Is the 1800 any faster ?

If you think about it, this is pretty much exactly how every airplane engine is run, all the time. Which is why they are typically torn down and rebuilt (at a cost of $20,000+) after every 2,000 hours of operation...and why they can cost $40,000 and upwards new - and that's for a little O-360 Cessn...

Re: Is the 1800 any faster ?

I was thinking about this thread after reading the Gold Wing book I mention here: http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=42127 It says "...The GL1500, as with all Honda engines, was repeatedly tested to destruction to ensure durability at high rpm and high load. Every part that broke wa...

Re: Is the 1800 any faster ?

I guess you are just looking for an excuse to get back on a harley, even though that 1500 and for sure an 1800 goldwing would melt a harley down trying to keep up with them. Good luck. Dave Sir, the problem with that thought, I have never owned a HD, and only ridden one a few short miles in the 35 ...

I put a hinge on the leading edge, so it does not come off while going down the road. I can lift it and adjust the volume, change stations, what even and not risk loosing it.

Re: Is the 1800 any faster ?

Thanks for all the replies guys, you have helped me make up my mind. It will have to wait until tax season 2019, but a 2007 or newer (96ci & 6speed) HD it will be. My day to day riding is in the 65-75mph range, but when the Pres says “mount up” and sets the pace at 85 plus mph, well, you ride and ri...

Is the 1800 any faster ?

I recently had a chance to do some distance riding with one of my best friends and his club, a 1% support club. Any way, going down the interstate, they ran HARD, as in 85mph to as much as 100mph. My poor , some what tired, GL1500 just could not hang. After about 100 miles of riding down, we made a ...

Re: Death wobble

Most common causes, as others have stated:
Worn tires
Bad, out of adjustment head bearings
Low air pressure

Those are the most common, and fairly easy to cure.
Best of luck and keep us posted

Re: Replacing Exhaust Pipes

There are a number of videos on YouTube where owners of the GL-1500 have used stock H-D dresser pipes with very little mod needed. You can usually pick them up cheap or even free from a local Harley dealer as they tend to toss them away when a owner upgrades his pipes to Stage 1 or 2 pipes.

It really is as easy as the others make it sound. I recently put Progressive 412s on my Wing, huge improvement, and the whole job, start to finish took me less than a hour, working in the driveway by myself.
