Re: regarding leds, trunk lights, brake flasher...

I never figured I'd be seeking a lighting upgrade on the 1800, they are more than adequate once fog lights are installed but I was tired of buying headlights so I found LED bulbs for everything all around and noted a nice increase in running voltage (+ .3 volts) with the reduced current draw. The hi...

Re: regarding leds, trunk lights, brake flasher...

Very true, no load resisters with the electronic flasher module (that's at least 4 less cut up harness wires!) I bought load resisters with my lights and fortunately did not have to splice them in as I bought the new flasher module just in time. I like the flash-to-solid brake lights also, I did the...

Re: Hot Tires

One more tidbit of advice... if you haven't already you should install good 90 degrees steel valve stems the next time you change tires. The 90 degree stock rubber one on my rear wheel was the culprit in my getting stranded in the desert at night - it blew out and thinking I was just shot at I haule...

Re: Winter Covers

I would be so tempted to rent a small storage locker for the short time winter hits. Park it on the center stand with plywood under the front tire, pull the battery and put moth balls in close formation all around it then a dust cover. Short of that I'd widen my back door and bring it in the house, ...

Re: regarding leds, trunk lights, brake flasher...

I haven't a Gen2 GL1800 but on the 2002 I've replaced all my lights with LEDs and for the turn flashers to function I disconnected the turn flasher harness from the back of the instrument console and jimmy rigged a solid state electronic flasher module in for 8 bucks at the car parts store. there ar...

Re: Hot Tires

I've run three sets of E-3s and two sets E-4s and never allow them to drop below 39 stone cold. I've found the E-4 max cold pressures changed between the tire from the first to second but only by 1 or 2 psi. Anyway I run year round in the desert at max cold PSI with balancing beads and have not over...

Re: How cold will ya'll ride?

Well I've already swapped my passive jacket liner and gloves for my Gerbings heated gear. I plan to ride as in the past until the roads freeze over. I've ridden the 12 miles to work at 5F and can say at 65 mph my gear starts loosing the battle and I have to slow to about 55 to take off the chill. I ...

Re: New 2018 Goldwing Survey

Of course I want to be hands on with this new Wing before I put money down and have several reservations starting with the reduced storage and loss of all glove boxes (if you choose the Tour DCT Airbag). Definitely a sharp looking bike but tail in saddle will be the ultimate decision for me. My 02 i...

Re: 2006 Goldwing cooling fans

Holy cow, that's a lot of coolant to lose! Mine has only hit the "H" 3 times and only briefly all in miserable 110+ conditions. Once with my camper in trail on I-17 IU got held back behind 20 miles of vehicles crawling past a traffic accident in AZ, there I had pull over issues and no-place safe but...

Re: 2006 Goldwing cooling fans

I have to agree to a certain point. Early 1800 ECUs are not flash-able, but I'm already questioning the history of my bike, If I have an over heating issue its closer to 25mph. Years ago I had an occasion to be without helmet or radio on a very hot summer trip and noticed a noise that turned out to ...

Re: 2006 Goldwing cooling fans

Now I can't sleep wondering about my ECU and its settings! Anyway I read on another forum where a overheating plagued owner mounted ancillary cooling fans on the outside of the radiators and used them to boost the force of the stock fans but they were still blowing in and were manually powered on or...

Re: 2006 Goldwing cooling fans

Larger radiators in 2006 makes was what I was thinking but wasn't sure. I was hesitant to say fans turned off at 30 as I've read 15 also (a lot, but its not mentioned in the service manual) and thought it may have been the change to the earlier models that involved an correction ECU or swap for the ...

Re: Slight odor of gasoline

Not uncommon when temps are hot and when one tends to overfill the gas tank. Like mentioned previously the Evap canister can receive overflowed fuel and when you shut down the engine heat causes it to outgas and it becomes noticeable once you stop, worse if you park in a garage before its blown off....

Re: 2006 Goldwing cooling fans

I have faced this with my 2002 wile trailering in the South West, I am commonly riding in 100+ temps. Its really not that the fans are shutting off to soon, they turn off at 30 mph. What is happening is the fans are sucking cooler external air through the radiator from the outside and pushing it for...

Re: warm up

This might seem silly but have you checked the radiators for bugs and flotsam that may have blocked airflow? I carry an HF IR temperature gun to verify my observations engine temps left to right, brake rotor temps, tire temps etc. I got it for almost free on sale and it might be something that can a...

Re: 2012 Headlights Quit (2 questions)

Definitely get some CRC and flush out the start button. The word is not to use WD-40 or wet spray lubricants as they collect the grime that can jam the switch up; but I've used it very sparingly before. Living in a dust bowl here my switches probably stick more than many other riders and I carry CRC...

Re: Key not unlocking my trunk, key turns, nothing happens.

I have an 02 and there is no hardware to remotely unlock its trunk. Anyway try pushing up on the release paddles beneath the trunk then turn the key left and right again. Mine has a broken spring in the mechanism and its too much of a pain to strip out the trunk and replace it, it will allow the cen...

Re: LED Trailer Lighting

BTW, I have a tag-along with LED lights (the recall sent me a back up set). On my 02 1800 I had no issues using LED trailer lights without an isolator, they draw very little current and did not impair the 1800's incandescent OEM lights on board (they were the ballast needed for signal flasher). With...

Re: 2006 GL1800 Ground Wire location?

If your battery contacts are cleaned up and secure (I tighten mine with a 10mm socket) then you might need to look at Ground point G2. Its in the top of the back of the engine under the rear of the fuel tank, truly a pain to get to. I hope its battery connections though, mine did the same after some...

Re: +goldwing 1800 will not turn over

BTW I also panicked that my 2002 starter was bad... in the end it was just fine after 120k miles. While waiting for the Starter Relays to arrive I jump tested the starter by touching the rear starter Relay B heavy gauge wire to the battery's positive post and it cranked immediately (a sigh of relief...

Re: +goldwing 1800 will not turn over

With everything in normal ready to start mode you should hear two equally loud clicks under the upper front edge of the left saddle bag. There are 2 starter relays that carry the current to the starter. Starter Relays A and B are both identical and in series starter voltage and current passes throug...

Re: LED "bullet" lights

Not all the bullet projector lights (U5, U7) have a C2 chip to be snapped off the circuit. My first set were the 3 mode lights and there was no chip or publicized means to disable the flashing mode. They will become emergency lights on the front of my house, blinding the Zombies for easy dispatching...

Re: LED "bullet" lights

Google for the Lylla one mode U5 LED and you'll find them on your favored online seller, they are produced as a US legal counter-part that is high beam only. I added mine a year ago to be able to see straight down my lane in cruddy weather without blinding the oncoming traffic. Still have to see pas...
